Mosquito-Related Health Alert
The Orange County Health Department has issued a medical alert for the mosquito-borne virus called Eastern equine encephalitis. Even though the risk of contracting the Eastern equine encephalitis virus and other mosquito-borne viruses by humans is low, people should use protective measures to reduce their risk of getting the disease.
This alert should be heeded by Walt Disney World vacationers as a good portion of the WDW resort is located in Ornage County. Health officials recommend minimizing mosquito exposure by: Trying to avoid outdoor activities at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are likely to be active and biting. Covering up by wearing shoes, socks, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants. The use of insect repellent is recommended on exposed skin according to the manufacturer's directions. Using insect repellents that contain DEET (diethyl-meta-tolumide) with approximately 30% active ingredients for adults and no more than 10% for children. Eliminating stagnant water. Ensuring proper screening around doors, windows, campers and tents. |

Thanks for the info JMouse....
There was a similiar situation when we went in October of 1997. Our local news in Texas was reporting a "killer misquito" outbreak in Central Florida just days before we were going on vacation. :nervous (St. Louis encephalitis) I called and spoke to a very knowledgeable CM who told me that All of WDW was "fogged" nightly with extra attention at Fort Wilderness. The pools closed at 6:00 pm every night during our visit to cut down on the risk of exposure to the little blood suckers....but we never noticed one misquito the whole trip. We packed "OFF" with us daily...but never even needed it (and I am a misquito magnet). At that time, on site resorts were putting a flyer in each guests room upon arrival to make everyone aware. I wonder if they are doing that again. Scary to think that something sooooooooooo small can carry such terrible diseases.:madmad

We got one in our room last week. I joke about our mosquitos up here, but at least they are large enough to kill. Those Floridian suckers are tiny and HURT when they bite! I hate them!!!!
