Rain, Rain, Rain & More Rain!!!

...What a bummer! Just returned from our trip 8/16-8/23. It rained every day except the 17th! I'm not talking typical afternoon showers that are to be expected in Central Florida this time of year, I'm talking torrential rain starting about 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.n. and continuing well into the evening.

Another Tropical Storm/Depression in the area now and for the forseeable future.

Bring protective gear or plan to fork over $6 for a Mickey Poncho while you're there!

I hope that you still enjoyed your vacation. The rain can be unpredictable as to how heavy in the summer in Florida. We were at WDW on August 15th & 16th and hit the rain as well. I live in Florida so you learn early that in the summer you have to just deal with it or hide inside.

We Definitely Made The Best Of It...

...Having been stationed in Florida with the Marine Corps for a short time, we were prepared for some rain this time of year. Afternoon showers were expected and planned for (had our Mickey Ponchos in our day packs). We were not mentally prepared for the torrential downpours that we experienced though.

All in all, with the exception of the rain, we all had a great time though!

OK, we were there at the same time (8/17-8/23) and the ONLY day it didn't rain was the day we arrived, 8/17!!! It was gorgeous that day! And every other day....horrible, horrible rain...torrential downpours, that they even closed the Monorail on Monday afternoon!!! It was the worst weather I have ever encountered in Florida in August, and I have been there a few times before during the same time! All I have to say is NEVER AGAIN!!! :madmad It ruined a lot of plans that I made and the rain did last all night, so there was really nothing you could do!!! Oh well, better luck next trip, right?!?:dazed

Yep, Yep, Yep,

We we're there 8/2 - 8/9 and had the same exact rain pattern. The local weather station said that Orlando was experiencing rain at a level about 900% over normal levels.

We we're wet most of the time. Saw Illuminations and Fantasmic in a downpour.

But, it was still Disney and we still had a blast.

1st Day:

Sounds like my honeymoon. :D

We were there August 20-27, 1995, and from the start we knew rain was going to hamper the vacation. It was raining when whe left home in the morning, raining when our plane landed in Orlando, and it rained off and on for pretty much the entire week. We had 2 days of mostly sunshine, but it was still an extremely wet week.

Of course, it was still Disney, and we were on our honeymoon  , so it was still a blast.

I remember going to Disney in July when my girls were all younger. We would get some terrible rains. I remember one day at the MK, water was up to our ankels. From that day forward, I always bring 2 pairs of shoes with us.
Well, will be there in Nov. Hoping for some nice weather!!:nervous JOANN:)

Ay-yi-yi, I'm not liking the sound of this! It's supposed to be SUNNY when we're in Florida!!! Oregonians don't go on vacation to visit MORE RAIN!!

Come to think of it, though...it's been sunny and hot here for at least 2 months. Barely a trickle of rain here and there! :hmmm

Darn, maybe it's asking too much for it to be sunny here and in WDW.

:madmad :madmad :madmad

Better change my shopping list from "tank tops and shorts" to "jeans, t-shirts and a poncho!"

You might want to just add ponchos and waterproof shoes to the list and forget about the jeans. Wet jeans weigh a ton and when you're worn out from walking the last thing you're going to want is heavy, soggy denim weighing you down! Just because it rains doesn't mean it cools off much!

Here are some wet weather tips:
Don't forget to spray scotchguard on your backpack... it helps repel the water!
The stroller cover by Graco available at Target & Babies R Us for $10 is extremely helpful!

You're right--jeans could be a nightmare!!! But ohmigosh, Scotchguard! You are so smart! I was trying to figure out how to protect my fanny pack (which usually contains money, camera, etc.) Duh, why didn't I think of that?? That's going on my list right now...

I agree, wet jeans to weigh a ton. But to tell you the truth, when it rained it did get chilly at some points!!! I would have liked to have had a hoodie zipper sweat shirt with me at times! And as for the Graco cover, I have it...the only thing wrong with it, is my son HATES it and pulls it off every chance he gets! He loves the rain, and obviously hates being under that plastic!!!

My biggest and best tip would be to BRING MULTIPLE PAIRS OF SHOES...INCLUDING FLIP FLOPS THAT CAN GET WET! I brought these with me in my diaper bag every day and when the rain started to fall, I put them on and my feet were comfortable all day long!
