excused absence from school

hey there everyone! We taking our children out of school for their first trip to Disney! Excitiment abounds!

Just a quick question...Of course the district requires an excuse for an excused absence. Does anyone have a great sentence or two I could use for the paperwork?

Thanks!

;) Mandy

I have no idea what to say, but I do know that teachers hate people taking their kids out of school for a vactation. I also know that here where I live even if the parent writes a note, it doesn't count. It has to be for a doctors apointment. Those would count as an unexcused absense, atleast here.

Our school district allows 18 days off per year. If it goes over 18 days, then that is when they start to question whether they were excused vs. unexcused.

You might want to call the superientendants office and see what school policy is as opposed to calling your childs school office.

I know my district will excuse this absence as long as it is educational. As we all know, wdw is both educational and fun!

I was hoping I could get some creative sentence or two explaining the educational side of the trip (without necessarily saying we are going to wdw)!

Thanks again!!

What kind of grades do they get?

Not to brag but...

My kids have mostly A's with the occasional B and generally don't miss a lot of school. So, anyone who challenges me can, with all due respect... um... shove it. ;)

In all seriousness, character development (pun intended) is just as important as classwork. If taking a vacation while school is in session is less expensive and the only way to really afford it (which it is for many of us), then who should really stop you?

I'm sure you've thought about why taking them out of school is justified. So then simply be honest with their teachers. Maybe there's some homework that can be done in the hotel one evening?

Be up front about it.

I think it depends on how old the kids are and if you let the teacher know a few weeks in advance so she has time to get make up work together. I'm taking my sons out for our trip the 19th - 23rd and they already know what's up. My oldest is in 2nd grade so he will have make up work to do in the car driving down but my youngest is in Kindergarten and will not have anything. It helps that they only have a 4 day week that week and 3 day for Kindergarten. (Teacher-in Service day and Kindergarten Round-up) :D Talk to the school as soon as you can and let them know that the required make up work will be done to keep them up to speed with the rest of the class and most teachers don't have a big problem with it.

Not all of us teachers hate vacations during the school year. I am very understanding about family time. I like a couple of days notice so I can get work together but I really don't mind. I always make a point to ask about the vacation when my students return to school, they return with some great stories.

For the OP---I think just writing a note stating you will be taking a vacation (to WDW, if you choose to include that) should be enough for the school. My school is very good about vacations, we don't care that families take kids out of school as long as we are told before the fact if possible.

My WDW are "unexcused" , bur it hasn't stopped me from taking my DD out of school for 3 or 4 days yet. She doesn't miss much school through out the year. Matter of fact, WDW was the only school she missed so far this year. I have no qualms about pulling her out to hang out with me and have never had to come up with an excuse or line for it. It would make me feel like I was telling a fib of sorts. I teach my DD that the absolute truth is always best.

School excuse

Dear administrators,

We have just found out that my son is sufferfing from WDWitis. Apparently, this is an extremely contagious condition that is spreading rapidly thru our family. We have consulted local experts and unfortunately, there are no treatment centers or specialist in our area. As a result, my son will be absent from school for 3 or 4 days while we travel to Florida to get him treatment for his condition.

We will be getting him treatment at the World's best treatment centers - MK, MGM, AK and EPCOT. At the EPCOT center, we will be able to consult doctors from all over the World as well as take a look into how the body functions. We will be able to get him animal therapy at the AK, antidepresion therapy at the MK, and there is a hotel/tower at the MGM center that will take the ups and downs out of his condition.

Also, the top specialist, including the world renouned Dr. Mickey Mouse and Dr. Donald Duck, in treating WDWitis are located in this region. He will also be able to receive thearpy there with the top therpist in the industry including the world Dr Goofy and Mrs Tinkerbell.

Thank you in advance for your understanding in this urgent matter.

:p :p :p

Just go!!!

Last October DW was afraid to talk to the schools for my to stepsons, so of course I was made the heavy (I look like a wildman, but am a *****cat). The boys 13&10 get A's and B's miss Very few days and are good kids. When I went up the principle gave me the old when I take a vacation talk and told me to write letters to the boys teachers. We let the oldest write his own, not only were the teachers so uninterested some did not even open his letters. All I am saying is that GO FOR IT!!! Life is short nowadays, time off from school will not hurt them!!! On our way again, April15th-27th!!!! :D :D :D

I make no excuse for my trips. I inform the teacher of my plans and then go. Of course I always bring back a bribe uhh I mean present:whistle:

Oh Susan, that is TOO CUTE! :D

If I was the administrator, I'd be grinning my head off and begging you to take me with you! ("Hey, the condition IS serious & contagious--maybe I should get cured so I don't spread it to the entire student body...")
