Strife on the ocean wave

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!

It's now Sunday morning and we are supposed to be sightseeing in the beautiful Spanish town of Vigo. However, we have spent the last two days battling force 9 gales and 30 foot waves in the north Atlantic. The ship is so behind schedule that Captain Hook has decided to miss out Vigo altogether and proceed directly to Lisbon.

The ship has been lurching so badly that people have had to hold onto handrails and the swimming pools were just sloshing about so much that one had hardly any water left in it.

Myn wife has had to have a seasickness injection, she felt so bad, and there have been plenty of spare tables at dinner. Fortunately I have an iron constitution and have eaten enough for both of us.

I am glad to say that the seas have calmed a little now as we have crossed the Bay of Biscay and are heading down the east coast of Spain towards Portuigal. Further bulletins to follow!!

I hope this doesn't ruin your trip. Are those rough conditions typical for this time of year? It must be horrible to be stuck on a ship an be sick. I hope you have better days to come.

Apparently the conditions are the worst that some of the crew have ever seen. Did Lisbon today. Nice city. Good news is that they've re-instated Vigo tomorrow, but bad news is that they've cancelled La Rochelle because of the conditions back up north. That makes thinges even worse as we have arranged to meet some French friends at La Rochelle and we can't contact them to let them know we won't be there.

However, Jeff's jumper is having a wonderful time as the Lisbon photos will prove.

reading this confirms my thoughts that I DH could not handle a cruise if there were a chance of rough seas... I join in with everyone else in hopes that you have smooth sailing ahead.

Did Vigo in Spain today. Very nice. Jeff's jumper (you tell them Jeff!) had a blast. Bad news is that we're heading back north now. The winds are HOWLING around the ship and we don't hit the Bay of Biscay until some time tonight. At sea all day tomorrow. Captain Haddock has told us to expect more bad weather!!
