My most spontaneous trip ever!
I got a call from my mom and dad on Thursday at 6pm asking me if I'd like to to spend the weekend at WDW for my bday... their treat! They said... be ready to leave by 8pm. My DH was still at work (45 mins away). My DD (almost 6) and I were running around the house trying to locate all of our trip must haves, throwing whatever could think of in a suitcase. It was totally not my style (I'm an over planner!) but it was very exciting and so much fun! We spent Fri at MGM, Sat. at MK and drove home Sunday. They paid for everything including souvenirs! What an amazing birthday trip!
Our Resort: Since it was such a last minute trip we were faced with rack rates and limited availability. We called Disney hoping to book a room at a monorail resort and with the exception of GF Main Building Concierge($585/night) or All Star Music ($99 a night and would have to get 2 rooms - not worth that kind of money) everything was booked! We decided to stay off property at the Holiday Inn Family Suites ($123 per night) which is under construction. We booked one room thinking we'd have enough room but the rooms are very small and the sofa bed so awful the floor would have been more comfortable. We ended up getting 2 rooms. The resort is undergoing a change to the Nickelodean Family Suites and will be great when completed. Right now, the rooms are badly in need of repair and redecorating. There are parking lots blocked off by the construction and the lobby is in a portable building outside. The pool was fun and will be amazing when the changes are completed. There was a free bfast buffet every morning which was tasty and convenient. Also kids eat free all meals. Our DD enjoyed the themed kids room with bunk beds and we liked our privacy in a separate bedroom and having a kitchenette and fridge. The new room plans look great and we might consider staying there again. I definatley prefer to stay on property though! We live north of Atlanta and WDW is about an 8 hr. drive. We drove half way, spent the night at a hotel and got up early on my bday and drove straight to MGM. Spent the day there. DH & DD surprised me with a bday button. I got lots of Happy Bdays from CM's! A CM saw my button and called me over to tell me that I had a phone call. It was Goofy with a birthday message! Fantasmic Dinner packages were all booked as were all table service restaurants so we decided to leave MGM to check into the hotel and eat dinner. The buffet there was fair and they gave me a bday button. We headed back to MGM and saw Fantasmic- parents first time. MGM wasn't crowded. The weather was perfect! When we got back to the hotel, our server at the hotel restaruant had a bday cake, card and toy train filled with candy sent to our room. The cake was delicious and such a surprise. A very nice touch! We spent the whole day at MK on Sat. We really got lucky - it was open till 11pm with 2 Spectromagic showings and Wishes! We hit Fantasy Land right away and rode everything with little or no waits. The park filled up and we made good use of fast passes so we never waited more than 5-10 minutes for rides. Lunch and dinner was counter service since all the table service restaurants were booked. It was an amazing day with perfect weather! It was such a spontaneous trip, no planning but so much fun! We're all a little sleepy but have magical memories to get us through the day! |

Re: My most spontaneous trip ever!
Dab what a wonderful way to spend your birthday. I spent my b-day last year at disney and it is great to get all that special attention but it would have been better if I didn't have to pay the bill...LOL How great was that! Thanks for sharing.
