Back from WDW & AKL

Well here we are...back in cold Michigan What a wonderful time we had, albiet for a few things. So here is my report (and a BIG thank you again for everyones help here in the planning of our trip

Monday-
We got to the AKL early afternoon. WOW what a beautiful place! The scenary, the smells, the nice cast members! It felt like we took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in Africa! Went right up to the counter, checked in with no problem and pretty fast. We stayed in room 2508. The walk to our room was not bad at all. After reading many reviews about what a hike it can be to get to rooms, this was a nice surprise. We looked out the back of the savanah. Got to our room, decorated very nice. Really liked the bathtub, with big ledge for my dd nemo bath toys. Walked out on the balcony to see three Giraffees not far off in front of us! How cool
Enjoyed a few hours walking around the resort, taking in all the sights and smells (loved the smells!). Decided to take the bus (we had a rental car)to O'hanna's for dinner. About a 7 minute wait for the bus. Picked up the monorail at the MK, which then took us to the Poly. Had reservations at 7:40 pm. We were seated next to the window looking right across the lake at Cinderella's castle. Was my dd 3 1/2 (and us!), excited to see it turning colors...what a beautiful view! Ate and ate (really liked the food), learned a hula dance, batted around a coconut with a broom and watched the fireworks from our table. A wonderful first night for us

Tuesday-
Off to Epcot. Had a PS at 11:40am at the Princess Breakfast in Norway. The food was good. Seeing my dd meet Belle (her fav), Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine and Mulan was the best! Ok, I had loved meeting them too ! Plus Belle came right over to us before we even got seated, and went on & on about my daughter being there in her Belle dress! It was wonderful! Spent the day walking around the countries. We did find the candy maker in Japan. She made my dd a Polar Bear...neat to see! Stumbled on Tigger and Eyore in Canda (what a wonderful surprise!). Ate and drank our way through the other countries. That night dd started running a high fever of 102 ! She has only been sick like that one other time! Poor baby. Lost her voice that night too!

Wednesday-
DD woke up with little voice (she said the giraffe outside took it! Our running joke for the week) but no fever and was jumping up and down wanting to visit another park. Off we went to MGM. We had been to MK before, but this trip we skipped it and wanted to try all the other parks. MGM was our least favorite of them all. Spent the day at MGM and then headed back to AKL. We loved all the little areas at the AKL to sit.

Thursday-
Went to breakfast at Boma's. One of the best breakfasts we have ever had!!!
Wonderful waiter! Did I mention how great the breakfast was...my fav...the made to order omlette! We decided to stay and enjoy the resort on this day. The weather was HOT...a record high of 87! Off to the pool we went. The pool and waterslide were nice, but nothing to write home about. But hey, it was wet and cool, and a pool! DH liked to bar right next to it so he could cool off with a nice cold african beer. The african beers were great! Headed over to the Boardwalk to have dinner at ESPN Club. DH is a major sports fan, so we had to check out the place. We both had burgers which were so-so for the price. DD had the mac & cheese (or should I say 2 bites of it, still not 100% back to feeling normal). Walked around the boardwalk and enjoyed the view.

Friday-
Our last day in WDW Headed over to the AK. Our favorite of all the parks! We love animals, love the walk around pace (I love rides but Dh and DD not into them). Headed right to the Safari ride to get our fast passes. Loved the ride! Went to "Its a Bugs Life" show and had a great time seeing it! The Lion King show was great, loved the costumes, singing, dancing and my dd able to see Simba! We all got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Lilo & Stitch and Winnie here. That was great for dd to get autographs and pictures here! Of course get to Lilo and Stitch...my batteries run out! And my spare pair, out too ! Oh well. Watched the parade, which was great and headed out to meet friends at the brewery on the Boardwalk. Enjoyed the magician, juggler and others that were entertaining on the boardwalk that evening.

Saturday-
Time to pack up and head north We keep asking ourselves, which relative picked Michigan to live in?!? Especially when WDW is in Florida! On the plane trip back we spent the time decided when we would be back and were we will stay

you reminded me of our stay at the AKL and the sounds, sights and smells .. the rocking chairs and the fire place and Boma's ..and I watched the castle change colors with you and Wishes light up the night.
I am so glad your DD got to get a Polar Bear from the Candy Maker!!!! but so sorry to read that she became sick ..that night must of been scary.

LOL Dana...that is exactly what my dh said! He was not a fan of WDW before this trip, having only visited once last year...but after this trip, he is a convert! He fell in love with AKL.

Sorry to hear that your dd was not feeling well. I hate that it happened so far away from home. You made AKL sound so wonderful. Maybe i will have to check this place out.

I like the trip reports the best on this site. When I am reading your report, I feel as though I am there. Only 10 days to go for my next trip to WDW. I am having trouble concentrating on what I am doing. Everyone keep up those trip reports!! You make my day!

I have to ask did they dim the lights or play the music during Wishes while you were at 'Ohanas?

Wow, you brought me right back to AKL, smells and all! It is one of our favorites too. We like to hang out around the fireplace on a cold winter night.
Thanks for taking me back to the place I love.
