Night of Joy 2002

Well Im back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just came back from the best disney world trip ever!! Disney's 20th annual, 2002 Night of Joy!! Im not gonna write every little tiny detail like "we arrived at space mountain at approximatly 10:35" lol. but i'll just talk about what i did, and what i thought of the rides...and the performances!! So let me begin!!!!.........
ok, lets see..where do i begin? lol. After the 4 hour drive in the back of a smelly b.o. filled church van we arrived at our even nastier Hotel. Since we had a party of more then 20 we were allowed in to the M.K. at 4. When we were pulling into the parking lot we saw the sign that said "night of joy: sold out!!" And let me tell you, the MK really was PACKED! We took the ferry over to the entrance, and while I was getting my bag searched by security it started POORING!!!! luckily being in florida it stopped before i even stepped foot into the park, and was clear the rest of the day!! After takings some photo opps. infront of the castle and the night of joy sign, and the adventure began......literally becuase we headed to adventureland! lol.
15 minutes later me and my group of 7 were singing "a pirates life for me!"...after that great ride we blasted over to space mountain! Now this is where i dont get disney...the line for space mountain was out the door, Once we finally got to the entrance (it took about 15 min.), we waited a few minutes then they let us in, we walked thru the ENTIRE queue line all the way up to the ride boarding station! Why did disney do this?? Why did they make us wait outside? And why did it say 55 minute wait? But it was definitly worth it!!! There is no way that ride goes only 28 mph!! After that ride we went over to "its a small world", this ride looks like it needs some rehab. I could barely hear the song playing and it looked like alot of the dolls were missing....i noticed cleopatra wasnt on her boat!....after that we went over to buzz light year where i scored 55,000 and some odd points! We then zipped over and hit snow white scary adventures, winnie the pooh and my favorite...peter pan!! Peter pan is such a great ride! The detail put into it is amazing! I also love having the track above you, so u really feel like you are flying. We tried getting over to tom sawyer Island but it just closed. My friend really wanted to see the Jaci Valasquez (sp?) performance, so we caught the 8:45 show on the cinderella castle stage. I feel in love with her!! She has such a great voice and the salsa music was awesome! We also caught the ending of plus ones performance. They also had great music. By now its about 11 and we are trying to figure out what ride to go on next. We headed over to BTM but decided agianst it becuase of the 60 MINUTE WAIT! We then walked over to splash mountain, and passed out when we saw the 80 MINUTE WAIT! lol. We were so tired of walking we just wanted to sit down! So we went back to its a small world, got front row, and took our shoes off! Im sure the people in the boat with us didnt like that, but we HAD to have a 5 minute break! We decided to finsish up the night with a magical ride on the carousel.
We concluded the evening with ice cream at the ice cream parlor on main street. I had a mint chocolate chip cone. Yummmm!!!!! lol. After that I headed for the main street emporium to spend the 13 dollars i had left over after buying 2 drinks, and dinner. I decided on the 11 dollar sorcerer mickey plush toy. Its found a nice spot on my night stand on top of my clock. I heard rumors that there were some fireworks while i was shopping, but when I asked a cast member if there were any scheduled for that night they said no. After taking some more group photos on main street we bid farewell to the magic kingdom, I started getting depressed, like I always do when leaving the park on the last day. My youth group leader DJ saw this and said "Dont worry Joe, we'll be back next year."........I really did have a "Night of Joy."
Joe:)

Thanks for the report! I've never been but to NOJ it sounds like sooo much fun! Ooohhh, I can't wait for ice cream on Main Street. I could stand in that place all day smelling the delicious homemade waffle cones! I have to start working out twice a day now cause I'm gonna pig out! LOL!! I have ants in my pants waiting for Friday at 5am when we will embark on our 8 1/2 hour journey in our min-van with my chatter box DD! I guess it beats a stinky 4 hr ride in a church van. :dazed I guess it's time to buckle down and concentrate on school now. (Sorry, that was the school teacher in me!) :p Enjoy your memories!!

That Florida weather sure seems strange to me. I live in the Seattle area where if it's gonna rain it rains!! Not just for a minute and then you have blue skies:dazed We went to WDW in March which must not be T-Storm season because we did not have weather like that at all. Very weird.

Oh man I can't wait to go!!!! Thanks for the trip report!

Hey Joe, glad you had such a great time. We haven't been there for NOJ yet, but want to sometime soon. It's so sad that Disney gets such a bad rap from certain churches. They don't mention NOJ when they're complaining.

Next time you think about your "smelly" trip in the van, think of this one...my DD went from Denver, CO to Mexico with her youth group in a van in the middle of summer. And when they were in Mexico they didn't have showers or anything, so they still had to ride BACK together! Now how does your van trip sound?
