Trip report guidelines

First of all, thank you to everyone who has posted a trip report on DisneyCentral. I think our members have done a nice job keeping this forum running well, so again, thank you for taking the time to share your Disney trip with everyone here. I have enjoyed reading each and every report here, this forum is by far one of my favorites here.

Trip reports take up a lot of space on the front page if they are not written as a single thread. Please continue each day of your report in a single thread. This makes it easier for other members to read your report as it’s easy miss a day if your report is written in several threads. Updating your report will bump your thread up to the front page each time you post, so creating a new thread for every day isn’t necessary. Also, try giving your trip report a unique, eye-catching name and include your user name in the title of your report. Pictures are great! Add some pizzazz to your report by including a few pictures for everyone to see.

Have fun!!

Re: Trip report guidelines

Just a suggestion from a guy with a short attention span:

Short, punchy paragraphs are much easier to read in a trip report than LONG blocks of text. Breaking up your tale into shorter blocks makes it easier for guys like me to read it. Stephanie's post above shows the ideal length of a paragraph. Any longer and it's hard to digest.

Just call me "10 Second Tom!"

Re: Trip report guidelines

I agree, breaking text up makes it so much easier to read. I start to lose my place if I am trying to read a long post that is written in one long paragraph.

I am guilty of that one. I will keep this in mind for the next report I write. I am so long-winded with them. I will definately try and cut them down a bit.

Do NOT cut them down! Just put spaces between your long winds!
(but, please, please, please don't cut them down!)

I agree, don't cut them down! I love detailed trip reports--the longer the better.

Right. I'm talking about style not details or length.

Re: Trip report guidelines

Here is an add-on for you all for the trip reports. Let please try to control ourselves with threadjacking in member's trip reports. A trip report is a very personal thing for many of us and it is completely disrespectful to that member to jack it. Keep your posts about the person's trip please. If it takes them a year to complete the report, then so be it. Starting your own comments in there to fill gap and time is not allowed. Disney Teacher and I will be removing all off-topic comments and jacking posts out of people's trip reports because frankly, they are to personal and valuable to just dump in the chit chat. I attempted to edit something in dewey's report and moved it and apologize for that. It will not happen again. You all have to remember that me and DT are here to keep the place safe and free of trolls and such. We are not here to power trip....just to uphold the rules that mickey wants followed for his site. Try and remember what this place was like with no mods at all. AGain, please think of the person who took all that time to prepare a report for you.

I am probably the worst offender regarding this, and now I see that it is inappropriate for me to egg them on.

Thanks for the add-on, Dana.

Re: Trip report guidelines

How about if you start a TR you must finish it in a timely manner...say within a month of starting it.

Re: Trip report guidelines

Is there a timeline here? When is too long ago to add a TR?
I wouldn't mind adding my trips in from the past since they all had different meanings. Just my two pennies.

I don't think that's ever been established. I think the pacing factor isn't how fresh the report is, but rather that all the details be recalled and reported.
I'd try and keep new reports to the last 12 months though.

As for thread jacking trip reports, welllllllll. I don't really mind in my reports, but try and bring it back to topic before you close out.
