Flat tires, splinters and missed flights, a lovemysons trip report

Well, lets just say I had a little black cloud hanging over me for a couple of days, which was some kind of omen, I guess, in retrospect. But, for what its worth, everything worked out in the end, and I am a better person for having gone through it.

For starters, I got a flat tire the day before we were going to leave. By the time I discovered the screw in the tire, it was too late to go to get a new tire. DH used his amazing fix a flat abilities and patched it. While I was inspecting the tire, I managed to get a splinter in the heel of my right foot, and just figured I'd get it out before I went to bed.(Needless to say, that didn't happen.) Next morning, I wake up sick. Sick to my stomach sick. Not pretty. And, we can't get the splinter out of my foot. We got off to a late start for the airport, never a good thing in the Detroit area, and to make a long story short, we missed our flight. We were 3 minutes late for checking in our luggage.

DH asked if we could still get on plane, send our luggage on a different flight, gate attendant(cruella impersonator) said, no, because our luggage can not travel without us. "You'll just have to catch the next flight." She tagged our bags and we were out of luck. Get to the gate and meet up with Cruella #2 who tells us next flight is oversold. We'll have to try for the 12:30 flight. Well, when we ask if that one is full, she says yes it is. Oh, and by the way, every flight until 9:20 pm is not only booked, but over sold. It is 7:00 am. DH is furious. I am sick to my stomach (literally and figuratively) Children are heartbroken. We'll just have to try our luck and fly standby.I call northwest, try to get on a different flight, they can't help me. I try again, ask if I can just buy new tickets, well, I can, for the unbelievably low price of $2,000 for the four of us. Well, after the next two flights go off, without any standbys getting on, I call Northwest again, and try for flights out of airports within driving distance. Still no luck. DH is not speaking to me. This, of course, is my fault because we left the house late. Children are incredibly well behaved, and I can not stress how great they were!!! I try northwest one more time and speak to Mr. Connor Ross, a wonderful,
beautiful man, who tells me to get walking to gate 36 and he will get me to Orlando by 4:30. If I were going to have any more children, I would name them Connor and Ross. Heck, I am going to have more children just so I can name them after that wonderful, helpful, polite, sweet man. After some more tense moments between Dh & I and a 45 minute flight delay, we arrived at MCO at 4:35 pm. Oh, and by the way, our luggage travelled without us, on a different flight, earlier in the day. So much for that rule. The rest of our trip was a dream come true.

Re: Flat tires, splinters and missed flights, a lovemysons trip report

Ugly is certainly a good word for it.

Now, on to Disney!

Once again, it was the four of us, DH, DS 8, DS 4 and me. Arrive at MCO at 4:35, find the person with the Mickey hand easily, there were actually 5 of them waiting with signs, follow the path, get to the ME check in, and within 5 minutes we are on the shuttle to the Poly!!! I am not kidding! It was quick, easy and painless. Sadly, we missed our ps/ar for Crystal Palace, but we will visit there later in the week.We were checked in at the Poly before 6. Go check out our room, it seems huge! Boys want to see the pool, and then we are off to the Kona Cafe for dinner. YUMMY!!!! And the desserts were outrageous! Then we're all in agreement, must head to MK. Hop on the monorail and we are off! There was a rain shower, cleared out the park, we stayed and had a ball! Stop to ooh and aah at the castle, and then we're onto Mickey's steam train. The lines were short, the longest wait we had was 20 minutes and that was for IASW! By the way, that was wonderful. DS 4 was speechless. We rode Peter Pan, Pooh, saw Philharmagic, TTA twice, Buzz and BTMRR. And of course, we did the Barnstormer, and stopped into Minnie & Mickey's house. Then, we headed back to the Poly, no wait for the monorail, and back to our room to sleep!! What started out so ugly ended so beautifully!

Re: Flat tires, splinters and missed flights, a lovemysons trip report

Oh, a few more first day pointers:

My DS 8, was just such a peach. At the airport, he knew how tense things were and he kept saying things like, its not your fault mommy, it'll all be ok, we'll be at Disney tonight, just remember we'll be there sooner or later.

Our luggage was waiting for us! Probably because it flew in earlier!!! But the ME service did work for us.

There was not a fridge in our room when we checked in, but it arrived soon after I called the front desk.

Kona Cafe had a dessert with a waffle cone filled with ice cream and chocolate sauce, stuck to the plate with chocolate, a bed of cotton candy and a chocolate mickeyand mickey sprinkles on top! My DS 4 was in heaven and he finished the whole thing!! And the coffee was perfect!

Great TR so far!

Sorry to hear about the missed flight-I think your DH and mine may have a lot in common...Mine can beat a dead horse with the best of them, lol. I am happy to hear the rest of the trip was a dream come true and can't wait to read more!

BTW, did you get the splinter out?

Husbands, huh???

And, in answer to the splinter question, no, I didn't!! And I had to trek around WDW with it for a week because it was in so deep, that I couldn't get it out while we were there. My Dh said I should go to the first aid station, but I was being a chicken by then.

Hey Baloo, I thought of you at least twice on our trip! We walked onto the Jungle Cruise twice, each time after the spectromagic parade. I couldn't help but think you would be proud of me.

Thanks Erin! I have notes somewhere, to keep me from rambling, but, of course, I can't find them!!!

I will post more once I find them. You need to fill me in on Caisley and get me up to speed on the past week here. My computer keeps crashing, so if I disappear, that's why.
