Jimbob's Trip Report- Day 1 Pt. 1

As some of you already know I recently returned from WDW having taken my nephew (I'll call him JohnBenPeteMoss) on his first trip. Our first day is as follows:

I'll spare everyone the details on the airport and airplane ride since pretty much everyone knows the drill- hurry up and wait. We flew out of Milwaukee on Midwest Express (an airline I'd definitely use again) at 8:40am and arrived in Orlando at 12:20pm. We only had carry-ons so we headed right past the baggage claim to Masood, our Tiffany Town car driver. It's so neat seeing someone standing in the airport holding a card with your name on it. Masood took our bags and brought the car around and we were on our way.

The ride took about 20-30 minutes, and we pulled into All-Star movies. I checked in and we got our requested hotel (Toy Story). JohnBen really liked the Toy Story buildings. We dropped of our bags at the room and both changed into shorts (it was 20 degrees in Wisconsin but 70 in Orlando) and went to the bus stop to go to MGM studios. The bus came within a few minutes and we were two of about 10 people on the bus.

We arrived at MGM about 2. We used our Park Hoppers and entered the park. While walking down Hollywood Blvd, a cast member wanted to know our zip code and email address to send us a survey. The first thing I wanted to do was the Animation tour (I'd been to MGM twice before but never got to go). We had about a 20 minute wait for the tour, so we headed to Walt Disney, One Man's Dream, and played around in there for a while until it was time for the tour.

Being an illustrator, I found the tour very interesting and the animation department was really neat. We got to see artwork from Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet and the next Disney movie tentatively titled "Bears". The movie at the end was really cool. I didn't realize there were that many sad moments in Disney movies all at once.

It was about 3:30 when the tour was over so found a spot on Hollywood Blvd for the "Stars and Motor Cars" Parade (right by the traffic light). We had the Cop "Streetmosphere" character emceeing the parade. In fact the highlight of the parade was when the villian car came by, the Wicked Queen knocked of the cop's hat.

After the parade, we when to the Sunset Ranch Market on Sunset Blvd and ate. I got a chicken finger basket and JohnBen got a pizza which he took two bites and decided it was bad (too "California" for his tastes) and he had some of my chicken. There were a lot of birds swooping around which freaked JohnBen out a lot (there were quite a few seagulls around through the whole trip)...

Thanks for posting your report! This helps curb my Disney craving for the day! ;) It also helped me warm up a bit hearing about 70 degree temps, it is 9 degrees here in SC today. :dazed :dazed
