Jimbob's trip report Day 4

Sorry for the delay, I was going through (PDD) Post-Disney Depression...

Day 4- January 12th

Today was our last day, and luckily our plane wasn't leaving until 7:30 so we had at least until 4:30 before we needed to worry about it (although if I'd had to do it again I'd have spent the extra night and flew out the next day).

We had PS at the Princess Storybook Breakfast at EPCOT, so we caught the bus at 7:45. Now keep in mind the WDW Marathon was going on this morning so a lot of roads were closed for that.

We arrived at EPCOT and made our way back to Norway. The final part of the marathon ran through EPCOT so a path was roped off for them with certain parts where you could cross. There were no runners this early though.

It was about 8:15 when we got to Akershus but the restaurant didn't open until 8:30 so we wandered through the Puffin's Roost until 8:30. The doors of the restaurant opened and all the CMs sang a song (if I was Norwegian, I might know what it was). We were seated in that little part between the two larger rooms.

The food was pretty good, basic breakfast fare (eggs, sausage patties, bacon, cheesy potatoes). The characters started in the first room so by the time they started showing up we had finished eating. JASMINE was the first (she called me Sultan), then AURORA, MULAN, BELLE and MARY POPPINS (the same Mary from CRT). We were both very happy to see Mulan, Aurora and Belle since we hadn't seen them yet. We asked Belle if the Beast will be in France today and she said after 12 if he finishes the chores Mrs. Potts gave him. We took pictures of them and left.

The Marathon runners were starting to come in and we watched them on our way back to the bus. Our plan was to go back to the hotel, if there was time JohnBen would go for a quick swim, then we'd check out and catch the bus back to EPCOT and finish up the World Showcase so JohnBen could finish getting his mask stamped.

Unfortunately, it took a while for a bus to show up and we didn't get back to the room until 10:30. JohnBen realized we didn't have time for a swim so he played in the arcade while I checked out. I left our bags with the handlers in the front and collected JohnBen. We caught the bus back EPCOT.

We stopped at Ice Station Cool for more Mezzo Mix and Vegita Beta, and made our way to France. The runners were entering EPCOT through a gate between England and Canada and running around the World Showcase. We noticed CLOPIN waving to the runners and cheering them on. He gave us a quick greeting as we passed.

In France we got JohnBen's mask signed by a rather unfriendly frenchman (in my opinion) and we met the BEAST (who is HUGE by the way at leasts 7-8 ft tall) We got a quick pic with him then he releived Clopin and started cheering on the runners.

We stopped at Morocco and got the mask stamped. Aladdin and the Genie were cheering on the runners. In Japan, the Characters on Holiday bus was parked and all the characters were cheering on the runners. We'd seen all of them already except for BALOO so we took pictures with him and went on our way. JohnBen didn't really want to see the American Adventure so after getting his mask stamped, we moved on.

Being with a 9 yr old child, if a country didn't have an attraction in it we basically just got the mask stamped and left (hint, hint Mr. Esiner). This meant Italy, Germany, and even China.

Although we did do shopping in China. In fact the woman who stamped JohnBen's mask was quite impressed that he knew he was born in the Year of the Rooster.

In Norway we went on the Maelstrom, which JohnBen really enjoyed but he kept asking me what he should expect. In Mexico, we rode the Rio del Tiempo, JohnBen liked this one to, I think it's kinda cheesy (it wouldn't be too hard for them to add a Three Caballeros theme to this ride).

It was about 2:30 when we finished the World Showcase. Our Tiffany car wasn't expected until 5 so we needed to think of what to do. JohnBen wanted to ride the monorail but we hadn't had a chance yet during our trip. I suggested we take a monorail to the Magic Kingdom and do a few things there until 4:30.

We caught the monorail to MK, JohnBen wanted to ride Buzz Lightyear again, and I wanted to catch a few more characters we hadn't seen yet. Luckily, we managed to accomplish both.

We saw LITTLE JOHN in the Town Square and headed to Tomorrowland. We rode Buzz Lightyear again (with basically the same scores as before).

JohnBen said he wasn't feeling very well and was upset there was no hotel room we could go back to. I figured he was getting homesick. That all changed when he noticed more characters. We saw GOVERNOR RATCLIFFE and CRUELLA. Ratcliffe was threatening to throw some teenage girl's autograph book into the bushes then he gave it to the Queen of Hearts who pretended to throw it in the trash. The girl then made the ultimate understatement; "You guys are SO mean". to which JohnBen replied "Well, they ARE villains"

We headed to ToonTown and saw Goofy with his son MAX and got a picture with them. I needed more film so picked up another roll at the County Bounty and headed back to the Fantasyland and got a picture with Cruella and decided it was time to head out. In the Hub, we noticed a few characters walking out of the castle and taking up stations around the Hub for meets. Of the characters we hadn't seen yet were, the girl mice SUZY and PERLA and STROMBOLI. We saw the Country Bears in Town Square on our way out and we caught the bus back to All-Star Movies.

To make a long story short, grabbed bags, Tiffany came, went to airport, flew home.

Now, I'm obligated to take my other nephew "Buddha" to WDW the January before his 10th birthday (luckily that's not until 2010).

Was that a tough trip? Fun? Testing? Parts of me cant decide.
Can you give us some reflection?

Phantom,

To me, any trip to Disney is a fun trip. We had a blast. I totally forgot about the "real" world the whole time I was there. It was also really cool showing my nephew everything that I remembered when I was his age.

Except for the "Talking Trashcan Incident" we didn't encounter any serious problems. It was a bit of a challenge, being responsible for a child but then JohnBen is generally well-behaved. Apart from a few "wandering away" incidents, (on both our parts) his sword buying fetish (6 in all), and the Buzz Lightyear voice changer, he was joy to take.

My other nephew, Buddha, is a bit more rambunctious. He's going to be the kid who jumps off the roof trying to fly. Taking him should be more of a challenge. Maybe he'll mellow a bit in the next 7 years...

Sounds like an adventure packed trip. Your nephew is a lucky kid! Hope you're recovering from PDD  :) ! We love the Princess Storybook Breakfast and were also lucky enough to be there on our 1st visit at opeing time and my DD got picked to be Princess of the Day... still our favorite Disney memory!!! The masks at Epcot are fun and really do make the WS more enjoyable for the kids! Thanks for sharing your memories with us!

What a great and wonderful idea! I wish I had the foresight to take my nieces and nephews when they were young! Our last trip we went with my sister and my niece and nephew both are older (Samantha 18 and Phil and 13) and they were more into running off on their own then staying with their mother and us(Could it have been because my boys, 6 and 3 at the time) wouldn't give them a moment's peace?? I did however get to spend a pretty cool morning at Blizzard Beach with my nephew while we were there. Sounds like you had a great time. You would get my vote for Best Uncle, that's for sure!:)
