Surprise Trip and Riding the Titan 16 times in 4 1/2 hours
Friday night I was joking around with DH when we went out to dinner with some of the teachers that I work with about heading to Arlington (5 hours away) for a day at Sic Flags. He thought I was nuts since DS had football Saturday morning. I did not think any more about it since he did not seem too receptive.
Saturday morning at 6:00 I was running around trying to make sure I had everything ready for DS's football game because we had to be at the field by 7:15 for our 8:00 game. I had just woken DS up to get ready when DH called me into the office because he need to show me something. I was a little upset with him because it was our snack day and I was trying to get everything loaded into the car. I went in and said, "What?" Boy did I feel like a heel when he showed me that he had booked a room for the night near Six Flags. He said he knew I could use a break and if we stayed with family we would not have as much time riding the coasters. Then, it hit me that I had less than half an hour to get everything for everyone packed and ready plus everything ready for football. I was yelling orders at everyone. The kids were so excited when they realized why I was going crazy trying to pack. Somehow, we got it all packed and loaded into the car and we were off to football. After the game, we were off. The drive was very uneventful and seemed to go by pretty quickly. We arrived at Six Flags by 3:30. It was the first day of Fright Fest, so there were alot of employees dressed in costume. We did not pay the extra money for the haunted houses since DS would have to sleep in our bed for the next 10 years if we did. He liked watching those in costume walk by as long as they did not do anything to him. We started out in the Mexico section and rode our way around the park. We rode everything once except for the old timie cars--boring. DH ran into an old friend from high school while we were there. They exchanged cell phone numbers, and word spread pretty quick. By 8:00, he had been called by 3 old friends and invited to go over to 2 differnt peopel's houses to watch the Cowboys game. By 10:00 PM we had made our way around the park. We were tired, so we left for the hotel knowing we would go back the next day and reride our favorites. Since it is so late, I will finish the rest tomorrow where I can explain riding the Titan 16 times in a row.

I love the titan...I rode it right after it opened (and before they slowed it down) I was sitting next to my dad's friend and he passed out....it was a little scary!

Re: Surprise Trip and Riding the Titan 16 times in 4 1/2 hours
We got up Sunday morning and ate breakfast at the hotel where they had a free continental breakfast. We are used to staying conceierge at Marriot, but since this was a last minute trip, we stayed at a Fairfield Inn. Nothing fancy but it was clean and they had a free continental breakfast. DS made the comment, mom where is the good eggs and bacon and the real orange juice. The breakfast was fine except that there was no protein for us to eat. They had cereal, bagels, waffles that you could make yourself on a waffle maker, toast, and donuts. We had waffles and then when we got to the car, I opened a package of beef jerkey so that everyone would have at least one piece and get a little bit of protein to start the day.
It only took us around ten minutes to get to Six Flags. We parked the car and headed in. We thought that something was a little odd because there was hardly anyone there. When we got to the gates we found out why. We thought the park openend at ten, but it really opened at eleven. We sat on a bench in the shade and talked for the extra hour. They let us through the gates at twenty minutes till eleven, but then stopped us at a rope. I guess they are doing what a lot of parks are doing now and having a rope drop. We did not want to wait at the rope with the sun beaming down on us, so we went into a shop and goofed around. The funny thing is that they were selling Disney merchandise in the store. It was the kind of stuff you would find at a local Walmart. It did seem odd to see Disney merchandise at Six Flags. It was finally eleven, so we followed the huge crowds over to the Titan. We walked right up to the ride. We decided that front row was the way to go, so we decided to wait in line with the other die hard front row riders while we heard alot of comments from people who walked on to the other rows about how dumb it was to wait in the long line for the front row. We did not care because the experience is so much better in the front. In reality, we only had to wait for five trains to go and they had two running at a time. Not bad at all. When we got off, everyone wanted to ride again so we jumped back into line and did it again. DH had decided to go over to a friend's house to watch the Cowboys game and asked if we would rather ride the rides are go watch the game. Now I am a big Cowboys fan, but when I have to choose between coasters and football. Coasters won. DH rode Titan with us one more time and then said goodbye. He told us he would come back around four to pick us up but he would come sooner if we called and said we were ready to go. The kids and I took a break long enough to get some ice water. It was already 96 degrees and humid. We had to drink alot of water to stay hydrated. We rode The Texas Giant which DS loved. He loved being shaken around again. Every time I rode a big wooden coaster, I am reminded why I love the smoothness of steal so much more. It was time to work on our goal. At first, DS said he wanted to ride Titan ten times before we left. When we hit ten, he decided to try and make it fifteen. We got to know a couple of the ride operators very well. DS had been begging me to let him ride alone. One of the workers who had been working there for several years told me that there was absolutely no way he could fall out. I finally broke down and let him ride alone. He was in heaven. DD had been talking to another coster junkie while we were in line and he convinced her she had to try the back row. She went and rode the back row by herself and loved it. She took her brother back to the back and he loved it too. I went and rode in the back for one time because they told me I had to try it. I still love the front much better. When you are in the front, you feel as though you are flying. The kids figured out pretty quickly that they could ride twice for every one ride I rode in the front row. I could see them get off their ride and since I was high enough up, I could watch them come back through the line so I felt pretty safe. When they hit their fifteen ride, I told them we coud go, but they said I had to ride fifteen times. On my fifteenth ride, DD decided that it is probably unlucky to ride an odd number of times, so we had to do one more--which for them meant two more. I told the ride operators that we had been talking to goodbye. They told us they had never seen such a little kid love coasters as much as DS and that they think we broke a record of the number of times to ride the Titan in four and a half hours. In all, I ended up riding the Titan 16 times between eleven and three thirty. The kids actually rode it twenty two times. We headed over to a ride called the Rock N Rocket. It is a giant swing that looks like am ACME rocket ship. It makes you feel weightless and even flips you completely upside down and over once. You actually hang upside down several times on the ride. It was time to leave, so we headed out to the front. DH was waiting just like he said he would. He even brought me another surprise. There is a BBQ restaurant chain that is only found in the Dallas Ft. Worth area called Spring Creak. I love their sauce and bread and everything. He stopped by there and got us dinner to go. He even bought a couple extra rolls. He said he thought about taking us there for dinner, but decided to take it to go and have it for us when he picked us up so we could get home in time for the kids to shower and get ready for school the next day. The weekend was perfect. We all needed a break to just get away and have fun. I am so glad DH surprised us with the quick little weekend trip. I also learned that as much of a coaster junkie as I am, DS is a bigger one. After riding Titan sixteen times, I was ready to go. The G forces seemed to really get to me towards the end. He said he could have ridden it a thousand times more because it was so much fun. I think we may have created a monster. Just kidding. Six Flags really hasn't changed much over the years. Alot of the old paths that DH and I used to take to get to one area from another are no longer there, but there are a lot of the old rides still there and it was fun riding them with the kids this trip. There is some wear and tear, but there always has been. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed riding the rides. I hope you enjoyed reading about our little weekend getaway. We sure enjoyed it!

That sounds so wonderful! Even though I'm not a huge fan of Six Flags, it sounds like a wonderful trip!
