Our Big Family Trip: 10/8-10/16

I think I am ready to start my trip report. First a couple of the facts:

We are DVC members & always stay at Old Key West Resort.
Magical Gathering participants were, Me (Lisa), DH (Mitch), DD (Jessica-7), DS (Mark-4), My Mom, My Dad, My Brother & My Grandma
We had a 2 BR and an extra studio booked
Everyone except my Grandma lives in Virginia, she lives in Buffalo - great week to be in Florida, huh?
We usually try to get "home" every year, but had to skip last year because of finances

We left VA on Thursday, Oct. 5th, stayed overnight in Brunswick, GA, and hit the WDW outlet store in St. Augusting Friday morning. This is the most incredible store ever! It is packed with overflow from the park, all marked down. We can stock up before we get there and cut our cost, not that we don't buy a few choice things in the park!

Anyway, in the store I realized that my DS had a fever and immediately shook my fist to the heavens, asking "Why?" Not a good way to start!

We got back in the car and headed to Stuart, FL, which is where my inlaws live for a visit and to meet our new 4 mo old niece. She is a cutie!

Mark's fever broke with each dose of Motrin, but kept coming back. He also stopped eating and by Saturday he was worse. We had planned to drive up to Orlando to meet my family after their flights, but ended up staying longer in Stuart so Mark could nap. Meanwhile, my parents and brother flew in, checked in to the Grosvenor Resort (for one night), and went back to the airport to find my 81 year old Grandmother, who ended up not being on the flight she was supposed to be on. Can you see where this is going?

When I called my Dad he was flipping out, my Mom couldn't even talk to me and Grandma was no where to be found. Eventually calmer heads (**ahem - ME) said they should have the airline check the flight manifests for her name. Apparently they didn't think the airline would give out any passenger info.

Grandma was found and we eventually got on the road and to the Grosvenor in record time.

I reminded everyone...the magic doesn't officially begin until I hear my first "Welcome Home" at OKW, so lets get the bad out of the way quick.

Day one we went over to OKW at 7 a.m. to check in so we could get a move on to the park. My Dad and Brother were golfing that day - and practically every other day too, so we sent them off to one of the courses, not sure which. They played all of them except the one that the Funai is at and LBV twice.

The rest of us non-golfers went to AK for a ressie at Restaurantosaurus. I had the absolute best quiche I have ever eaten. I had planned to ask for the recipe, but didn't remember by the end of the breakfast. Before everyone was finished, I ran over to Everest for FP's for later.

looks like your son was feeling better by the time you got to AK. Hope he (and everyone else) stayed that way all week!

Glad you found G'ma. That had to be scary!

Actually, he was still running a fever. This was the first time he had been sick for an extended period of time in his life, so I kept assuming it would just pass. His spirits were good and the Motrin would work temporarily, but he tired very easily. More on how we handled the illness in future TRs.

And...if you guys like pics, well I can accomodate you. I took over 1200 pics, I have my Dads and my Brothers as well. I won't be posting 1200 pics obviously, but I will not be stingy. If there is something you want to see, I probably have it.

My kids love to play in DinoLand USA. I think we could spend entire days just there. They love to dig for dino bones and play in the play land. But it's not jus t them that likes it. Case in point to follow...
