4 days at WDW / 7 Night Cruise

We just got back from 4 days at WDW and the 7 Day Disney Cruise and I wanted to share "the great, the good and the not so good". As someone corrected me earlier, there is no bad or ugly at WDW!

The Great

Overall the Disney Cruise was stunningly great and here is why:

1. The staff is over-the-top nice and friendly. Amazing service, just amazing.
2. We booked a double-dip cruise which went to Castaway Cay twice. Just wonderful. The island experience was fantastic. Book a double-dip if you can.
3. You can book a future cruise on board for 10% off and a $200 credit per stateroom. I don't know if this is a good deal yet (Mickey is checking for me)but you can cancel for a free refund up to 75 days out so why not try.
4. The entertainment is very, very good. Movies shown all the time (Cars, Dead Man's Chest, etc) and the shows were really good (and I am not a musicals guy at all).
5. The ship is amazingly well-kept and clean.
6. The kid's clubs are really great. My kids loved them. They were not bored at all.
7. Characters everywhere including Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Parks were fun as always. Here was The Great:

1. Osbourne Lights - amazing. Liked these a ton and they have them dance to music every 20 minutes this year.
2. New Rides: Expedition Everest was great. Fast as sin and fun. Nemo at the Living Seas was very good, a great improvement IMO.
3. Saw Devine at AK. Really neat and always hard to find.
4. Ate at Liberty at Liberty Tree Tavern for Dinner. Great experience. In addition we were surprised by a special Unbirthday Celebration. They brought out a cake (free) and we all celebrated a friend's Unbirthday.
5. Took a break from Epcot to walk to Boardwalk Pool for some R&R. Kids loved it. If you are DVC members, you should try this.
6. Saw Jimmy Cricket in photo ops for the 1st time ever. Never seen this before.

Lodging Great

1. Saratoga Springs was great. Really becoming a nice place now that construction is nearing completion. You should all check it out again.

The Good

1. DVC booths everywhere including on the ship. Normally this doesn't bug me (we own) and they did give us nice free stuff (hats, bag) but it seems to be getting a bit too much with the constant push.

The Not So Good

1. Air quality in my cruise ship room was tough. Very, very dry and never got cool no matter what we set the thermostat on. We had an inside cabin but I have never had this issue before on other cruise lines. This was about the only negative on the cruise.

2. The Family Suites at All-Star Music was not good. Very small especially when all the beds are open. In addition, ours smelled like something (smoke, musty, etc.) We complained and they said they would air it out during the day but it did not improve. Very disappointed. Will not be hurrying back to this for $200. I realize it is a budget resort but $200 is still a lot of money.

Any questions, ask away!!

Re: 4 days at WDW / 7 Night Cruise

Welcome Home! and thanks for the good and the not so good.

I CANNOT wait for the trip report - isn't Castaway Cay the greatest?

I'm glad that you gave SSR a nice review. I really like it there. I think people are being put off by the size and location - but it's really an outstanding resort. Too bad about the All-Stars - for $200. you shouldn't have these kind of problems - especially at WDW.

I thought the same thing about the DVC booths - Disney's "Best-Kept Secret" is not much of a secret anymore.

No particular questions, just wanted to share in your joy over the trip. But, if you do have time to post pictures, I think everyone here would enjoy them.

WElcome home! Sounds more good than bad...that's always good..lol I am sorry to hear about ASM suites...I was hoping they would be better than that..oh well. $200 a night is money spent and you deserve top quality at any WDW resort no matter what category the resort is in. They are all about service, so their lack in caring and lack of effort to make it right kinda annoys me. Can't wait to see some pictures!

Re: 4 days at WDW / 7 Night Cruise

Welcome back! I too would like to see pictures when you have the time.

I have questions. Are there many adults on the cruise, traveling without children? That would be me and my party, if we decide to take a Disney Cruise.

Do you think there are enough "adults only" (get your mind out of the gutter Cavey) places on-board....bars, restaurants, bars, etc.

Don't get me wrong, kids are great. I just don't like being around them when I'm someplace I can't escape from them!

Re: 4 days at WDW / 7 Night Cruise

I am go glad you loved the cruise. I can't say that we had the same problem with air quality in the room. Sorry you had that.
I'm glad your kids loved the clubs - mine did too.
I hope you post some pictures!

DisneyWorldFan, absolutely yes!!! The only adult activity that really is missing from other cruise lines is a casino. Otherwise, I would go on this cruise without kids absolutely!!!

Re: 4 days at WDW / 7 Night Cruise

OK, at the requests of many, I am attempting to add some pictures.

I will continue to do so it everyone wants (and if I can figure this out!). I have to say my new digital camera takes some great images.
