The good, the bad, and the ugly

Hi, all! I am back from my Disney trip (March 14 -17th). Of course we had a blast!

The good - Disney
The bad - hotel
The ugly - me, after no sleep and poor customer service

We arrived at our hotel on Thursday night. We stayed that the Sheraton Safari right at the entrance to DWNT, on Route 535. Our building was not attached to the main building which I didn't really like because of the outside access to our door. The actual room itself was poorly lit and very poorly laid out. More about the hotel on the Orlando Hotel section. Let's just say by the last day our air conditioner didn't work and neither did our toilet. I was ready to get out of there.

On Friday we went to Epcot. We got there about 9:20, park opens at 10 so we waited at the base of Spaceship Earth to be let in. Then there was a mad dash for Test Track. The wait time went immediately to 90 minutes so we got FPasses. Then we went to Living Seas. Almost empty and ***SAD***no more ride in the LS! So, it was pretty boring.

We went back to TT and walked right in with FP. The stand by had dropped to 40 minutes. The ride was great except that the monitors on the car weren't working.

We went to the Land next. Found out there is no more ice cream social; didn't bother going to AP Lounge; had a nice experience with a Cast Member - she thought my daughter was adorable and let her have one of her Minnie Mouse pins. My daughter was dressed in a Minnie dress and matching shoes.

We had a very nice lunch at the Rose & Crown. I would highly recommend it. Then we actually sat through the movie in France. It was nice. My daughter said "Get me out of this cave".

The park was pretty empty and there was a nice cool breeze BUT the sun was brutally hot!! And I am a native!! People were burnt to a crisp by the time we made it to Mexico. We were hot and sweaty and tired so we left for the hotel.

That night we went to the Boardwalk. We ate at Spoodles which was nice. We went right in. Jellyrolls was empty at 9 pm so we got ice cream and people watched. There was live jazz and entertainment on the Boardwalk. It was so beautiful. I really want to stay there next. I highly recommmend the Boardwalk to eveyone!!

The next day we went to the MK. The characters were ALL out when we got there so that was nice. The other visitors were not so nice, but oh well. Again, it was very hot in the sun but the breeze was cool. The park was quite crowded but we got to see and do all that we wanted to.

We did do the Tiki Room for the first time since it changed. What a waste! I am so disappointed with what they have done. They should have kept it as it was - at least there was a reason to have all those birds.

That night we went to Pleasure Island and had fun. We made a cassette of us singing "I Got You Babe". It's awful! LOL. When we left the lines to get into PI were to the parking lot at 11 pm. BTW, no more valet at DWTN. No extra security in the lot, either.

Our trip was not long enough! Having a bad hotel experience was not a fun thing to endure, either. But was happy to get there and can't wait to return!!

Welcome home. Sorry that you had a bad hotel experience. We have stayed several places off property, usually just for the first night, but you take your chances. We have had some great stays and some horrible ones. We once showed up at midnight (late flight), and the booked us into a room that had an inch of water on the floor. And it was the only room left! Fortunately, they found one that was having something fixed, but they didn't even want to give it to us. Glad I was checking into OKW the next morning.

By the way, the Tiki Room in Disneyland is still original, and much better! Iago=Yuck!

I'm glad you had a good time. I'm a little...no, I'm very worried about the heat. I'm not used to the heat and I'm probably going to be miserable. I need to make sure I take a waterbottle fan when we go.

I'm really sorry about your room. Do you usually stay onsite? That's really frustrating when that happens. Where else did you post about your trip? I noticed you said something about Orlando Hotels. I'm going to read that now. Welcome back.

Hi Fifi:
Welcome Back!!! i am soooo sorry that your room was horrible -- did you let the manager know? Also, I can't believe that there is no ride in the living seas anymore?!?

Well, lets not dwell on the bad -- did you have a great dinner at spoodles? what did you have? Sorry that jelly rolls was not hot the night you went -- guess you might have to go late at night -- you'll have to try it again next time you go. I guess you didn't get to go to the luau? (Weren't you planning on doing that?)

Anyway, don't you just love the boardwalk? I think it will be fun to stay there.

Well, I'm glad youre back--lvbug

Cinderellafifi, I'm so sorry that your hotel was so disappointing! I would expect better from a Sharaton property. Did you complain to the management? I'd pursue this with the Corporate Headquarters (There is absolutely no excuse for a non-working toilet! Well, what I really mean is that if the toilet is not working, every effort to fix it promptly must be made or accommodations changed or adjustment to the hotel bill . . . We clogged a toilet in one of the vacation homes we rented in Kissimmee--fortunately we had two bathrooms--and I called the maintenance dept. # and it was fixed by the time we returned from our excursion.) You could probably get the contact info from the website.

At least your visit to WDW was wonderful!

Thanks guys!

We arrived on a Thursday night and complained to the front desk about the a/c on Friday morning. Friday afternoon there was a note in our room that said "A/C running good". Yeah, good but not cold. The toilet was not working the morning we were leaving so I mentioned it as we checked out.

I did take a survey from our room and I have every intention of following up. I have been very sick this week and I am just regaining my strength so I'll get on it right away.

Thanks for all the good thoughts!:)

Cinderellafifi, I sure hope that you are feeling better soon! I hope that you get some satisfaction from Sheraton once you submit your comments, too. Get well!

Fifi:
Just an FYI -- one time I had to complain about a hotel (very rare for me) and I just got on the email and actually found a persons email address and sent my comments that way. My email was answered very promptly and I got a comped room for my next visit (which I never used, since I hated the hotel at that point). Good Luck. lvbug

Great idea!

Thanks, Lvbug and Lopo! I like the email idea. I find emails get such a more prompt response.

Today (Thursday) is my first day back with the living so I will see what I can do about contacting management.

You guys are the best!
