Well, all 16 of us have arrived back home after a wonderful week in South Carolina. It was a first time for all of us to go to DHHIR and I have to say that it won't be the last for the Davis Family. We had an awesome time and enjoyed Hilton Head and the surrounding areas very much.

I hope you're interested in hearing about our trip. I've got tons of beautiful pictures that I can't wait to share, but I have new editing software since our computer crashed, so bare with me, lol!

Here goes my report

Friday, March 9th, 2007 & Satruday March 10th, 2007:

After working until 11:00pm at work (13 hours!) I came home Thursday night and packed until 4:30am. Then slept until 7:00 and got the kiddos up for school and I went to work until noon. I picked up the kids and got home and we loaded the car and rooftop carrier. Since I got a new SUV last month, it is much smaller than anything I've ever driven in the past so we got a roof top carrier and this was our first trip with it (worked out very well!)

We were on the road around 1:30 and had a reservation at Country Inns in Ocean Springs Mississippi. We made it before 11:00pm and dropped in to bed. Great hotel, great price...very quiet!

We drove the next day for 9.5 hours to Savannah GA to stay the night at Country Inns there. The kids hit the pool, I hit the hot tub and hubby ordered us dinner and he layed around since he had just drove us the entire way there. A Goofy Family's Inlaws had aleady checked in and a Goofy Family had left a few hours later than us on Friday so they were not too far behind us.

Sunday, March 11, 2007 (Part 1):

We lost one hour driving east and then another hour with day light savings time. So our bodies were two hours off!! We got up around 8:00 or so and loaded the car back up. Our first stop was Paula Deen's restaurant called "The Lady and Sons". We checked in and was asked to wait across the street with a HUGE crowd of people. They said after they ring the dinner bell that they would start calling names. Well, they called LOTS of names....except mine. I asked what the problem was and after a few tense moments they worked it all out and got us right in...although we didn't get to sit all together, we got three tables very close to one another. It was all you can eat sunday brunch and the meal was awesome!!!! If you ever get the chance I highly recommend it. I just have to get the recipe for her cream style corn.

After lunch, we walked around town and wow....what a beautiful town it is! We went from square to square exploring as much as we could. We also checked out an old cemetary and some other local landmarks. The city was dressing up for it's annual St Patty's day celebration including green water in all the city fountains. We were told Savannah was expecting approx 400,000 people for this event!

Now it was time to head to Disney.....well Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort that is! In no time we were checking in to this beautiful resort! I had been telling our daughter about "Shadow" who is the Golden Reteiver that "lives" there. She had been asking about her many times and I asked the CM at check in and she said that just maybe Shawdow was in the back and she would see if she could find her for us. Well, Disney magic kicked in for sure because after we were done checking in they brought Shadow out for a private meet and greet! Around this same time A Goofy Family had arrived and started checking in so her kids got to see Shadow, too!

We got everything unloaded and we checked out the resort and then went to the campfire. It was a lot of fun!! Afterwards, DH went to the grocery store to stock up for the week and to pick up dinner and I went to the hot tub while the kids swam. The pool and hot tub closed early each night at 9:00 which was kind of a bummer....but we got such little sleep as it was so I guess that it really was a good thing.

I'll be back with the more of our trip tomorrow...we visited Charleston, Savannah, Spent a couple days at the resort/Hilton Head/and Disney's Beach House, and a day in St. Augustine FL (stay tuned!)

Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to reading some more. We are planning to go to DHHIR sometime. I know alot of people go to Hilton Head to golf. We are not golfing people. Is there enough other stuff to do in the area?

It depends on when you come!
Like Heather said Savannah and Charleston are not very far away 1-2 hours so they make great day trips, the beach is wonderful..although I dont think the weather in March is exactly beach weather quiet yet..and there is tons of shopping and lots and lots of fantastic food. It's more of a relaxing vacation than a Disney type of vacation would be.

Love the TR, makes me feel like we're right back in HHI relaxing & having fun! We had such a good time, can't wait to go back again....when shall we go?? My laundry's done, so I'm ready when you are!!
