Re: Thanks, Nana! Our Spring 2008 trip report

Your trip report is wonderful. I'm not sure I want to hear what will happen next...getting sick on vacation is no fun! We had a episode of food poisoning with one our kids on vacation and it was no fun. Luckily, they felt better the next day and could sit in a stroller and could still do rides.

Re: Thanks, Nana! Our Spring 2008 trip report

For the second time this trip, we heard Illuminations from the monorail station as we headed back to the Polynesian. For some reason, we just didn't make it to the show this trip, even though it was a priority for me while I was doing the planning. Oh well, Rick and I are definitely going to see it on Labor Day!

I think for the first time, when we got off at the TTC, we went down one ramp and up the other so we could take the monorail to the Polynesian. We usually walked to our longhouse from the TTC, but this time, we were going to Captain Cook's, which is in the Great Ceremonial House. Since this is where the monorail drops you off, it makes the most sense, but I don't remember if this is what we did!

What I do remember is that we were standing in front of the self-service kiosk at Captain Cook's, ordering our dinner, when something made me look down at Kate, who was in her stroller. The next words out of my mouth were: "Did she just throw up?" Sure enough, she had, and it was all over her and the stroller! Rick and I went into panic mode; we quickly decided that he would take the girls back to the room and start trying to get Kate cleaned up while Christian and I waited for our food. One of the CMs had seen what happened and came right over to help clean up the area.

What happened next was another example of the quality of people that Disney employs as CMs, even in food service. One of the CMs had seen Christian's birthday button, and asked if he could have a cupcake. This had happened earlier in the week (Sunshine Seasons, I think); he was given the cupcake and this was the end of it. I don't know if it was because the CM had witnessed what had just happened, and knew that we could use a little extra magic, but he announced to all of the people at Captain Cook's that it was Christian's birthday, and asked if everyone could join in singing to him. It was such a blessing to me, and as you can tell from the video, Christian got a big kick out of it, as well!

MOV03919.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I made certain to give thank you cards out to the CMs afterward; if they didn't deserve them, I didn't know who did!

When our food was ready, the CM saw that it was too much for me to carry since I had Christian with me, so he got a big bag for me to put it all in. When we got back to the room, Rick had Kate in the tub. I was very proud of him at this time, as well, because he does NOT handle vomit very well. He has a sensitive gag reflex, so I'm usually the one to deal with any protein spills at our house.

The girls ate their dinner, but as I recall, Rick and I weren't very hungry so most of our food went to waste. Rick and the girls had missed the serenade at Captain Cook's, and I wanted them to have the opportunity to end the evening on an up note, so I suggested that they try to catch Wishes from the Poly beach. They didn't get to see the whole thing, but hopefully seeing part of it was enough to lift their spirits. While they were gone, I got Kate in her jammies and put her to bed (with lots of extra towels underneath her!) I didn't get much sleep that night, as I was so worried she would throw up again during the night. I actually don't remember if she did or not, but we were really hoping that she'd feel better in the morning!

Of course, I was mortified by the whole situation, but what could you do? I was very grateful that it had not happened on the monorail or at the Magic Kingdom! It was a blessing that we had come back to the Polynesian, since we were able to get Kate back to the room and cleaned up in no time. Unfortunately, it meant no Spectromagic for us this trip. Just another reason to go back, right?

Up next: the dreaded departure day...

Re: Thanks, Nana! Our Spring 2008 trip report

I love Christain's smile while the people were singing to him. You must bring out the best in people! I'm sorry Kate got sick (oh how I can relate to that), I hope she was well for the rest of the trip! I can't wait to hear more!!

I just realiezed that you'll be in WDW while we're there. I'm betting that you'll have you trip report done before me, lol. I'm not good with writing them, but I'm really enjoying yours. I'll have to see how things go and maybe I'll do one. I have my Passporter ready to go (as I do every year) and I even write notes to myself, but the report just doesn't happen.

Re: Thanks, Nana! Our Spring 2008 trip report

WOW, this TR is so awsome. Beth, I really feel that each time we read your report we get a glimpse inside your family. I guess thats how we can all stay close and connected in some small way. You sound like such a nice person with an incredible family. Hats off to you with Christian. I know he is a handful with his handicap, but, you all seem to handle him in such an awsome way. He sure seemed to enjoy every part of this trip. What troopers your kids were. They hung in ,even on those late nights. I am so glad you and Rick are taking time for yourselves in Sept. It is a long and overdue trip I am sure. Maybe one day our paths will cross at Disney. It would be an honor to meet you and/or your family.

Re: Thanks, Nana! Our Spring 2008 trip report

OK, I've put this off long enough! It's time to finish up this TR and tell you all about our last day.

I was up bright and early again after my fairly sleepless night. I had been afraid that Kate would throw up during the night, so my sleep was pretty restless; every time she moved, I would wake up and be ready with the bucket! I don't remember if she had any trouble during the night, but I was ready if she did!

We had a 7:50 ADR for breakfast at Ohana. When I asked if anyone wanted to go with me, Rose was the only taker, so off I went for some alone time with my oldest DD. We didn't have far to walk, and at that hour, there wasn't much of a wait. Rose had her picture taken but I knew we wouldn't be buying it. Food came fast, and were enjoyed a bit of breakfast before the characters came around. When I went to get my camera ready, I realized I had taken my battery out of the camera so I could charge it the night before, and forgot to put it back in! I had my camera with me, but no battery! Fortunately, Rose had one of her disposable cameras with her, so the following photos were taken by me with Rose's camera! I had to scan them in, so they're not of the greatest quality, but I thought you all would want to see them!

The waitress offered to take this next one; it is one of my favorite pictures. Here's your question: whose smile is bigger, mine or Rose's?

We had a few adult TS credits left, and our waitress was kind enough to charge us for two adult credits so I didn't have to pay OOP for Rose's meal! We were out of there pretty quickly, because I really wanted one last glimpse at the MK before we headed to the airport.

Unfortunately, I still had LOTS of packing to do when we got back to the room. I wanted to check our bags here at the Poly, and get our boarding passes, too, so I frantically tossed things into bags left and right, and in my haste, ended up leaving several things out that should have gone into the checked baggage. I couldn't take a full-sized sunscreen in my carryon, and I didn't think they'd let us bring on one of the swords we got from CRT, either! I hadn't finished all the Pepsi my brother had brought me, so I left it in the fridge. I hope it went to someone who would appreciate it!

I left Rick and the kids in the room while I went to take care of the luggage. We'd called for assistance, so a nice CM gave me and the luggage a ride to the GCH in a golf cart! The whole luggage thing took a lot longer than I'd hoped, but it was better to do it here than at the airport! It would definitely save us time later! While I was doing that, Rick ordered Tonga Toast from room service, and used up two of our last three TS credits. (Unfortunately, I found out that they charged it to our room instead of using credits, so I had to stop at guest services before leaving the resort.) When I got back to the room, I asked my big girls if they were up for a quick trip to the MK. Before we left, I took these last pictures of our Tokelau house.

Up next: what, if anything, would we get accomplished at MK?
