So glad you finally finished. So glad at least things were civil at AK.

The morning after the disaster at MK dawned. We woke up, they woke up. We went to breakfast at Waffle House. Everyone was being so pleasant that it was almost scary. Conversation was gingerly begun and, after walking on eggshells for a bit, everything seemed to flow more easily.

We went back to the hotel and packed the car and headed off to AK. It was still about noon when we arrived, but we had plenty of time to see everything they wanted to see which was fine. DaddyBear had not eaten very much breakfast so he got something to eat at Discovery Island after we showed them It's Tough to Be a Bug! which both mother and daughter seemed to like. While DaddyBear ate, we talked about what we wanted to do next. Mother suggested Flights of Wonder which was very cool since this was a new attraction for all of us (DaddyBear and I had never seen it either).

So we headed over to the stage and all of us really enjoyed this show. The birds are amazing. We had thought they would want to go the Safari, but they elected to go to Rafiki's Planet Watch instead (after daughter got her fastpass for Kali River Rapids). I didn't thing the train could take the scooters, but was happy to be proved wrong. We had a great time exploring over there for awhile (yes, today went far better than yesterday).

to be continued immediately
Glad things were better on DAY 2! We did flights of wonder for the first time too last visit and it was GREAT! I was very surprised!

Re: Our 2-day trip, with guests, Monday and Tuesday, to MK and AK

Oh, and again, our own love of Disney and appreciation for it has been reawakened. We were worried after the previous trip (when we spent both days and too much money and just didn't feel well, and didn't enjoy it much) that maybe we were getting jaded , but honestly I think we just didn't feel well at the time. But seeing them (even the daughter, just without the conflict of the mother) be immersed in this glorious wonderland and not seem to see all the coolness all around them -- good grief!! I mean, the whole fireworks incident was kind of symbolic really. Here we all are, with what is conceivably one of the best fireworks shows on this continent if not the world (very probably!), right overhead, no extra admission fees, for free for the looking, just look UP darn it!! and how could anyone not be awed?? We went to Animal Kingdom, yes, it was more civil, absolutely, but we didn't mention that apart from Flights of Wonder they didn't look at any of the animals!!! The first thing they did when we entered MK was not look at the castle, or walk down Main Street... it was to go off to the side right into a gift shop. We didn't berate them, it was their choice but...

I even have more of an appreciation for the princess part of the Dream Along With Mickey castle stage show now because of the way the mother dissed it. (I'm not a big fan of the princess stuff -- I tend to feel like in some of the movies they were just too darned passive, characters that things just happen to rather than active participants in their own destinies -- but after the mother put down the princess aspect for similar reasons, I was thinking (but did not say, as I didn't want to be contentious; I'd held my tongue off and on all day long before that big blow-up), um, you can't really change the plot of a movie from 1951 or 1937, they are what they are and that's that, and I even found myself seeing aspects of the films which I hadn't realized before (Snow White does take a resourceful active role in building a new life for herself with the dwarfs; Cinderella does a great deal in the early part of the movie by helping and befriending the various animals and such, even showing kindness to the cat Lucifer, as well as trying her best to be good to her abusive relatives, and one could make an argument that her hardworking charity and patience is less passive...). So we really feel kind of revitalized in our love of Disney just by our astonishment that anyone could ignore or blow off all the cool stuff...

i have never thought to analyze the princesses or their roles in their stories. to feel as if they are active participants in their destiny or passive.....it's an interesting notion, but one that takes some of the magic and naivety out of the experience for me personally. but maybe that's just me.

i am glad you all ended things on a good note with the mom & daughter. it sounds as if all in all it wasn't a total "wash". you ended up having a renewed appreciation for the disney magic, and also maybe walked away less eager to try to put yourself out for some of those friends from the past that you have outgrown.

thanks for sharing your TR.....it was a good one!:C)
