Re: Marti Goes to Disneyland -- LIVE! (or at least semi-live)
After that, it was time to go hunting for dinner. I wanted French Market, but the place was packed. So was River Belle Terrace. It was well after 7 by this time, and lots of other people obviously had the same idea. So I went around to Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland, thinking it would be quick (and tasty -- mmmm, skewers). Wrong. Oh so wrong. But the nice lady in line in front of me struck up a conversation, and that helped pass the time. By the time I had my order, all I wanted to do was get out of there and find a place to sit. People had been taking places for Fantasmic -- some seriously enterprising souls had been there with blankets and picnics at 6:30, and were planning to stay put until 9
-- and it was really getting congested. There were plenty of places to stop in Frontierland, though, and that's where we took a seat.I didn't take pics of the skewers, sorry, but the grilled asparagus was yummy as ever. Unfortunately, the spicy beef, while well-seasoned and flavorful, had the consistency of shoe leather and was almost inedible. Maybe I should have had the chicken after all... Next stop: Tomorrowland, where the line outside Buzz was the longest I've ever seen. Ditto Star Tours. The posted wait time for Space Mountain was 70 minutes, with no FPs available. Apparently Tomorrowland is where the cool kids hang out while the rest of the family stands around waiting for Fantasmic. ![]() So we bit the bullet and decided to do the one thing we'd seen that wasn't packed: Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Marti enjoyed the giant cat head. Sitting in the dark theater, I realized just how tired I was and decided to call it a night after the show was over. I checked my watch; it was coming up on 10:00. We'd been in the park for five hours. I'm rather glad today is a blackout day on my AP; I've no doubt that the crowds will be at least as heavy as they were last night. Today Marti and I are going off to enjoy DTD and take in a couple of movies. Tonight's update will feature more photos, a cat's-eye view of WATCHMEN and CORALINE, and Marti's introduction to the Napa Rose lounge.

Re: Marti Goes to Disneyland -- LIVE! (or at least semi-live)
Yesterday, Marti and I discovered that "the best laid plans" also wreak havoc on ninja kitties.
![]() First, in my haste to get out the door and off to DTD I managed to leave both my cell phone AND my camera at the hotel. I did not discover this until I was trying to make sure my phone was off before CORALINE started. This meant I did not get any pics of Marti skulking around the place and pouncing upon unwary passers-by. I don't think anyone else did either, so we're probably not banned from DTD....yet. Anyway, the film was charming, although I much preferred the book. The plot includes the involvement of an intrepid black cat who helps save the day; this pleased Marti to no end.Second, the lounge in Napa Rose was completely booked by a private party. The only seating available was at the bar. Thwarted thusly, we turned to plan B: Storyteller's Cafe. I would love to show you a picture of the yummy roast beast, sauteed veggies and fresh berries I had from the buffet line. Too bad I don't have one. Having dinner here reinforced my position that yesterday was an excellent day NOT to be in the parks -- it was packed. After dinner it was back to the theater for the day's second show, WATCHMEN. Being a geek of many years' standing who loved the original graphic novel, I enjoyed it very much; the cat took a nap. I had a mission to fulfill after the movie as we were leaving to catch the hotel shuttle: Dopey had requested some antenna toppers, preferably as gaudy as possible. Fun, colorful, glitzy -- this was the order of the day. "How hard can that be?" I thought to myself...then I got to the display rack, where a sea of drab and/or sports-themed toppers awaited. Color was scarce, glitz in extremely short supply, but there was some fun and that's what I got. Here, then, are Dopey's new antenna toppers, photographed back at the room. The balloon-shaped one is for the new "Celebrate" theme.

Oooh - LOVE those toppers. The Princess one is SO Dopey.
![]() Aw well, "the best laid plans of mice and men"... I am glad to read that Ninja training is going well and that no pictures were snappped of the recruit practising her guerilla warfare.

Sigh. There are hazards to sporting about the parks on one's own with a very cute stuffed cat in tow during an extremely busy time. I would never have embarked on this escapade if I had known how crucial a second person would be -- as with so many celebrities, Marti needs both a publicist AND a bodyguard. Like I told 6-2-6 on the phone yesterday, no sooner would I get Marti placed and step back to take her pic then someone (frequently but not always a child) would come to try to "rescue" her. BAH! Touch the cat, lose a hand! I wanted to pin a little sign onto the front of her shirt that read I AM NOT LOST. But trying to get fun pics of the kitty in the middle of the zoo that is Spring Break has been an epic FAIL. I will have some of her conquering the hotel, though. After having lunch at Red Robin and hunting down still more auto parts (including the Mysterious Doohickey), we were off to DCA in the early afternoon. The place was no less crowded than before. The theme of the other night in DL recurred: long wait times, no FPs available. So we did the sensible thing: we went to see Aladdin at the Hyperion theater. (For an expert's view of just how great this theater is, go back to Andrea's TR from awhile back. She was spot on.) The show was entertaining, and I snapped a few pics.First, Marti sends Greetings from California. ![]()
