our 4th of July trip

goofygal and i were at wdw almost the same time and even in the same resort. :) we stayed in all star sports july 3-7. this was our first trip to wdw.

july 3
we left work at 3PM to go to the airport. got to orlando approximately 8:30PM. we used tiffany town car, and our driver was waiting. we stopped at a 7/11 to get beverages. we were starving by the time we got to all star sports, so we dropped off our suitcase in the room and caught a bus to downtown disney. i agree that the bus service was really good. we always caught a bus right away. it was around 10:45PM when we got to downtown disney, and all the restaurants were not serving anymore. we ran to fulton's crab house and got in thankfully. we got a crab with mango appetizer and had the seafood boil entree. servings are so huge. we ended up sharing a lot because there was no way we could eat one each by ourselves. the seafood boil was really good but messy. well, i wasn't too messy, but my husband is a messy eater. :) he kept spraying crab leg juice on me. :) after the meal we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.

july 4
we chose to go to epcot on the 4th of july. we didn't rush to get to the park. i think we got there around 11:15AM, and there was hardly anyone there. it got busier in the mid afternoon but i was surprised that it was bare. we were taking pictures by the lake as soon as we got there when a bus came parading through with various disney characters. so i got my picture taken with mickey and goofy. i got my picture taken with either chip or dale, couldn't tell which, but it didn't take. guess my husband didn't push down the button all the way. we tended to snack all day so we could try different things without bloating ourselves. the open salmon sandwiches at the bakery in norway are really good. my husband particularly liked the viking size ringness beer at the bakery. :) i'm not really a beer person but the ringness went really good with salmon. it's a dark norwegian lager. then my husband had to get an italian beer in italy and a chardonnay in france. :) we ate lunch at yakitori house and made a reservation for tempurar kiku for dinner. we finished the worldshowcase and went to the stuff towards the entrance. by the time we were finished it was time for dinner at tempura kiku, which was really good. then while waiting for the fireworks we went back to norway so my husband could get a second viking size cup of ringness beer. :) i got one cookie.

july 5
we went to mgm studios. to our amazement it wasn't as crowded as we expected. we didn't have to wait long for any of the attractions. we fast passed tower of terror and that was it. rockin roller coaster with aerosmith was really cool. :) my husband loved tower of terror and so did i. we ate lunch at mama melrose's. it was ok but not my favorite. we got pepperoni flatbread and calamari. we were really hungry and wanted somewhere to sit down and get out of the heat. i think we finished everything by 7PM. we tried to get to the boardwalk but since you have to go to downtown disney first and then catch a bus to the boardwalk we thought we'd be late. so we ended up eating dinner at downtown disney again at capn jacks. had the seafood pasta. so far this was the least favorite of all the places we had been.

july 6
we went to animal kingdom, and it was our first anniversary. animal kingdom was pretty crowded. it was my favorite park. i love animals and had so much fun observing them. i had to walk around with wet shorts all day. we rode the kali water ride, and my entire bottom of my body got soaked. i had on heavier shorts so they took a while to dry, even with the heat. primeval whirl in dynoland is scary. i sat on the end and it extends past the track. every time i looked down i was sure i was going to fall. :) i did a caricature drawing in dynoland. i was sketched as a mermaid...hehe. i didn't get to see pocahontas and friends nor go through the petting zoo. phooey on AK for closing early. we ate salads all day. then we went to jiko's for our anniversary dinner. it was sooooooo good. this time we each ordered our own entree and took the leftovers back to our room. we had the marinated ahi tuna with heirloom beans, black chickpeas and zough yogurt sauce for appetizer. i order the grilled buttermilk curry shrimp with a roasted spaghetti squash cake, and my husband ordered pan roasted monkfish with parsnips, potatos, and tomato butter sauce. my mouth is watering right now thinking about it. :) i couldn't pass up dessert and i ordered warm chocolate banana bread pudding that came with banana ice cream and a half banana in a caramel sauce. it was the best dessert i've ever eaten! my husband got a coffee that was real heavy on the alcohol. :) after we ate at jiko's we finally made it to the boardwalk. we walked around the lake and that's it.

july 7
we went to typhoon lagoon. our flight didn't leave until 7:30PM, so we checked out right at 11, stored our suitcase, and went to have some water park fun. we never got to take advantage of the pool during our stay, and this was the only time we got to go in water. my husband liked the bar by the water. :) we stayed there until time to go back and retrieve our suitcase and head to the airport. :(

we had a really great time. who knows when we'll ever get back again, not for a while for sure.

i posted some pictures at http://photos.yahoo.com/pukapuhio.

Hi enjoyed your report and pictures. The hibiscus was beautiful and like the one of Brandon and friend too :) It sounds like a wonderful trip and you hit it lucky with crowds for the most part. Even though you don't know when you'll go back I hope you stick around DC!
