The Night Before!

Here it is--FINALLY!!! (I know y'all are rolling your eyes at me!!)Hehe. :laugh

Cast:
Kim (dznygrl--that's me!) age 18 (now 19!)
Melissa (best friend) age 19

Okay, so on Friday night I had to work until 9:00. It was EXCRUCIATING, let me tell you! All I wanted to do was go home, re-check my suitcase for the 5th time, take a sedative and go to bed!! (After all, we had to leave for the airport at 3:30 AM!)

Soooo 9 o'clock rolls around, and I fly out the door without doing even HALF of the closing things I'm supposed to do (don't worry--I think my manager understood my excitement!) :D I speed all the way to my best friend's house to pick her up...get there, and she is completely ready to go, with her bags all sitting in the entryway.

It takes us about 60 seconds to say good-bye to her parents and then hop into my car, where we promptly start SCREAMING at the top of our lungs out of excitement!!!! We're bouncing, rocking & rolling all the way down the road to Taco Bell...decide we're not ready to go home yet, cuz we're hyper and HUNGRY! So we buy food & then stop by Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream, take it all to my boyfriend's house and have a big ol' pig-out session. I end up doing a Disney Dance on the sofa and rolling on the floor giggling! But the whole time I'm feeling bad because my bf can't go with us on the trip, and he looks really sad.

Finally, around 10:30, I get a call from my dad, who sounds mad! Y'know, "you have to get up at three o'clock in the morning and you're STILL not coming home?!?!" kinda thing...very predictable, but I'm just so excited!

So we drag ourselves home and re-check all of my packing & important papers lists. Still too excited to sleep.

About midnight I take my prescription sedative (I'm a very excitable girl, what can I say???) :) and crawl under the covers. We talk for about 45 minutes because we still can't sleep, but eventually exhaustion takes over and we drift into dreamland...

WDW is only hours away!!!

Day 1 is finally here!

Sorry guys, but I'm a detail-oriented kinda gal. So when you ask for a trip report, you get a blow-by-blow account! It's gonna be loooooong!!! You've been warned... :laugh

Let me give you all one word of warning about WDW trips--no matter how excited you are, do NOT take a prescription sedative only 3 hours before you're supposed to wake up!!!

Hahahahaha. :laugh

So waking up on Saturday morning was not nearly as easy as I expected, because even sheer excitement could not clear my foggy head. I think it took me twice as long as normal to shower, and even that barely woke me up. That sedative was sure working!!

As soon as I was ready to go, my best friend hopped into the shower while I raced over to bf's to wake him up so he can drive us to the airport. (He doesn't wake up to ANYTHING but violent shaking at 3 o'clock in the morning!) ;) I think he was WAY sleepier than I was! This is when I started to get second thoughts...maybe I shouldn't let him drive us...if we want to make it to WDW!! :hmmm

But we made it to PDX just fine, even though we left about 15 minutes late. By this time I was completely awake, because it was FREEZING COLD outside!!!! I started daydreaming about Orlando weather...

After saying good-bye to bf (who teared up--awwww! I felt so bad! But I left my big stuffed Mickey with him to keep him company for the week!), we checked in at the Southwest counter. At this point I was feeling sort of--odd--because I realized that we were BY OURSELVES! Never travelled across the country without parents before. But it's a nice, independent, confident feeling. I was being as responsible as possible, with my organized folder of important papers...just crossing my fingers...

I demand to have my camera & film hand-checked, because I'm using mostly 400 and 800 speed film. Security doesn't give me any hassle about it, which pleases me. By the time we get to the gate, we can actually see sun peeking over the horizon. That's when the hunger sets in BIG TIME!! I buy us breakfast at the airport Wendy's and a magazine to read on the plane.

Our flight left on time--6:35 AM--and the flight was quite uneventful! The plane emptied quite a bit on the stopover in Kansas City, so we got to move to seats in the emergency exit row. More leg room!!! :D The flight attendant comes over and asks us how old we are---GRRRRR!!!! :madmad How come that always happens??? Do I LOOK 14 to you?!?!?!?! :hmmm Oh, well. I guess we do look sort of young for our age--but I'm thinking, "I turn NINETEEN in five days, lady!!!!"

Moooooving on from that little sore spot...

The flight was very uneventful, except I got semi-sick for part of it. But that tends to happen, so I just drank a little extra water, closed my eyes, and tried to get some rest. It helped! By the time we landed in Orlando, I was feeling GREAT again!!How can you not feel great when you're going to Walt Disney World?!?!?!

We'd barely stepped into the airport, however, when I remember that I didn't confirm the towncar reservations. OH NO! :nooo: I start to panic, chiding myself for being so stupid. But--no need to worry!!! There was our smiling Tiffany Towncar driver waiting by the baggage claim! A nice older Hispanic lady, she had the car waiting for us promptly and turned out to be a very friendly person. Whew! Talk about relief...

Mel and I had so much fun seeing all of the billboards for WDW attractions, but I started getting nervous the closer we got to All-Star Movies. I checked my folder for the confirmation at least twenty times!!

Now here comes the semi-funny part...I was sooooo incredibly excited to see the Tower of Terror, when I saw it, I almost started to cry!!!! And when we drove through the gates that said "Walt Disney World," there were tears in my eyes...oh, I was SO HAPPY!!

I didn't need to be worried about checking in at All-Star Movies, either. We barely had to wait, which was nice. I had been picky when I faxed in my room request--Fantasia building 5, 2nd story, pool view, non-smoking. Well guess what? We got EXACTLY what we asked for!

We were so thrilled with the resort, too. I don't know, I guess I just had major second & third thoughts about staying at a Value resort--since we stayed at a Deluxe last year. But BOY, did we LOVE All-Star Movies!! I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

After checking in, we still had about half an hour to kill before we had to leave for our 6:30 PS at 'Ohana. We spent it walking around & taking pictures of the resort. I took almost a whole roll in the first half hour of our trip!!!

As it turns out, we didn't leave enough time to get to our PS. But that was okay! They were very gracious about it, and got us in as quickly as possible.

BOY OH BOY, did that food taste fantastic! 'Ohana is just my favorite place to eat, and same with Melissa! We didn't realize how much we missed it. I think we were full on appetizers before the real meat ever got there! :p Melissa got pretty cheeky, too, and told our server that it was my birthday!!! (Even though it wasn't for 5 more days...) So at the end of the meal, I got a cupcake w/ green frosting & Mickey Mouse sprinkles, surrounded by a plateful of gummy worms. :o Too bad I was too full to eat it! We licked off the frosting and saved the gummy worms for later...

After dinner, we waddled (seriously--I think we waddled!) to the bus stop in front of the Polynesian. I guess it was painfully obvious that we hadn't been there in a year, because one of the employees finally came up to us and said, "Uh--you guys waitin' for a bus?" We nodded. "Well, they moved the bus stop down there!" (Points far off to our right.)

WHOOPS! ;pinch:

Oh, well. We're good at laughing off stuff like that. Believe me, we have to laugh at ourselves ALL THE TIME!

We caught a bus from the Poly to Downtown Disney and had a wonderful shopping spree! (Okay, so I didn't actually buy anything, but I made mental notes about what to buy later in the week...) Mel bought a few souvenirs for her family.

Then we went back to the resort and CRASHED into bed!!! Early entry at the MK, so we need some major SLEEP! It's about midnight or 1 AM in Orlando, which means we've been up for about 18 hours. TIME FOR BED!

All in all, the trip is going WONDERFULLY so far...

One day when you're 45 you will look back fondly on those times when people asked your age!

So glad you had a great time!

I am with you here Tink! Ah to be so young again. You handled that so well. I can't imagine my daughter off like that at 18. I too usually have to take a little something to sleep but will avoid it in only 10 days when I leave!

Yeah, I hafta keep reminding myself that I'll enjoy looking young later on in life!! ;) For the moment, it's just constantly irritating. Haha! As you'll read in my later trip reports, we got asked our age AGAIN on the flight back...I know they have to be careful. But sometimes I feel like pasting my ID to my forehead so they don't even ask! :laugh
