disneydana's trip report--OUR ARRIVAL

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, and it is gorgeous! It was everything we hoped it would be. It was fun walking in and watching the look of "wow" on our DD's faces. Several times throughout the week, my 4yr old asked if we could build a house just like this. It made me feel good that she thought the resort was so beautiful (because it really is).

We were off to a good start right away. I had booked a standard view room. I asked if any upgrades were available (which I never would have done had it not been for this website) and the CM upgraded us to a courtyard room for free. Yay! We went to our room (on the 6th floor). It was great except the balcony was closed in and I did not like that. I like to sit on the balcony and be able to see out. The bellman arrived with our luggage, and I asked if it would be possible to change rooms. I hated to do this since they were so kind to give us the upgrade. But it was no problem, and we were whisked away to our new room on the 5th floor. Ahh!! Much better. Our new room was great. I was also pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the room to be on the small side, so it was much bigger than I expected.

It's a little after 6pm so we drop our stuff off and head to Chef Mickeys. A ferry runs between WL, Cont., and Fort Wilderness, and the kids really enjoyed the relaxing rides on the boat. We have dinner and meet Mickey and friends. We decide to go back to the room and hit the bed. We need a good nights sleep because tomorrow we're off to EPCOT!

Mmm, I really want to stay at the WL. Everyone is giving it such a sparkling review, and when I visited there a few weeks ago, I was in complete awe! I could not stop jabbering about how cool it was. I want to stay there NOW!!! :laugh

It sounds like your trip is off to a wonderful start, disneydana! Can't wait to hear more!!! :D

Me too!!
I call every day in an attempt to switch our resorts in December. I am trying to use one of the discounts, either FL Resident or Passholder. WL was our first choice, but it was booked, so I booked CSR. I will continue to call daily, (and on a slow day at work - more than once) :D
I am very jealous of all these glowing reports of WL.
It's my turn!!!

Glad your trip started so great - keep the reports coming.

WL has always been my dream resort. I was finally able to stay there in July. It was everything I hoped it would be a so much more. I was in awe walking in and that feeling lasted all week long. I now have a new favorite resort that I want to stay at every trip. Your first day sounds so much like my frist day; upgrade to courtyard view and CM's on the first night. I can't wait to read the rest of your trip report.

We have stayed at WL twice now. I expected the second time to be less special than the first. It wasn't!!! Though we will try other resorts, WL will always be our special place.

We also fell in love with the WL when we checked it out on our last trip. I think that we might change our plans of staying at CSR and staying at the WL.
Im glad that your first day started off great. Can't wait to hear how the rest of the trip went. :)

Can't wait to hear more about the WL. My DH fell in love with this place the first time we visited. Althought we're staying at the BC concierge I'm surprising DH and I booked the WL for the day before our FTP starts. It's just one day but I know he'll enjoy the relaxing nature of this resort.

If anyone is thinking about staying at the WL, do it!! I had always thought this resort would not appeal to me. I'm not the outdoorsy, secluded type. I kept reading such wonderful things about the resort on DC so I thought we'd give it a try. It is such a FABULOUS resort. I can't say enough positive things about it. Now I'm a little sad because I'm not sure we'll be able to stay here again. The rooms accomodate 4 people. We left 19mth home with granny. Next time we visit she'll be with us and that makes 5 in our family. They have jr suites but they also have a hefty price tag attached to them. Oh well, unfortunately I have a while to figure out something.

Dana I can't wait to read more about your trip! I am so excited about our upcoming WL stay!! You'll have to give me all the details about room locations and what to wish for. Did you have a bunk bed room? I'm excited to hear you got a courtyard view upgrade. I'm wishing for something like that too!

Hey dab! You are going to love WL. We opted not to do the bunkbeds (don't really know why--just preferred 2 queens). We were in room 5130 and it was a great location. We were located around the corner from the elevator. There were only 2 rooms on this corner so it was very quiet. We couldn't hear the elevator or people. Our balcony overlooked the villas and the quiet pool. It was so peaceful in the afternoons. While everyone napped, I sat on the balcony and planned the next day and just relaxed. You could hear music being played over the resort. It was very nice. I don't know if I would prefer this view or the main pool and geyser (I'm assuming you can see the geyser from these rooms). Seeing the geyser would be neat but overlooking the main pool might be a little noisy and not so relaxing. I think I just answered my question. LOL. I don't think the resort has a bad view. I've heard people say very positive things about the standard views. I think some face the MK and you may get a limited view of the fireworks.

One last thing to consider if you are going to request a location. Our first room on the 6th floor had a closed in balcony. The wall was about 4 or 5 feet high. If you were sitting down you would not be able to see over it. My kids had to stand on chairs to look out (this made me very nervous). I am assuming that all the 6th floor balconies are the same.

We also would prefer to be on the 4th or 5th floors (3rd would be acceptable too). My guess is that the 1st and 2nd floors get a lot of traffic and would be on the loud side. You travel the 2nd floor to go to the lobby and the 1st floor to go to the pool and boat dock. Just some things to consider.;)
