DougiesMommy Dec 2003 Trip

Cast:
Me (Cher) - 29
DH (Doug) - 28
Son (Dougie) - 2
FIL (Grandpa) - 53
MIL (Grandma) - 52

Saturday, November 29th
I can’t sleep and its 2:30am. Why did we say we would just leave around 7ish knowing I wouldn’t sleep? Well at 4am I couldn’t take it and finished all the last minute things (cooler, snacks, pillows, etc) and got the van all ready to go. Doug is also up being as loud as possible but in-laws or Dougie didn’t budge. Well finally at 7:30 we get on the road. I’m so impatient and anxious even knowing we aren’t actually getting to Disney until Sunday afternoon. We stop over in Valdosta, GA for the night in the only hotel we could find with any rooms. Not a very nice place and had to make do with only two double beds for the five of us but we made do.

Sunday, November 30th
Wakeup and get on the road again by 7:30am. Make a quick stop for breakfast at McD’s. The excitement is building as we start seeing signs along I-4 and I’m really getting Dougie pumped about seeing Mickey. We are just about to the ‘Welcome to Walt Disney World’ sign and Dougie spots Mickey and just squeals. I love it! I can tell this is going to be the best vacation already!

We pull into Contemporary resort and get waited on immediately. Doug is unloading the van and checking the luggage since it is just now noon and I “know” our room won’t be ready. Ask about getting Magic Kingdom view and our cast member went to work on the computer. He is printing out our key cards and getting all the maps, etc. Hands over the paperwork and shows us where our room is and says its ready. What?!? Talk about making my day and then adds that it is also Magic Kingdom view. I’m jumping up and down with excitement as Doug walks in and looks at me funny. Told him the room was ready and we were all set. He even did a little jump with me. Head up to the room and get settled. We were on the 6th floor with a room just off the elevators. Took in the magical views from the balcony and then called Mousekeeping to request the mini fridge.

Off to DTD we go. We are looking for shirts for the boys for our family pictures on Wednesday so World of Disney is our first stop. This store is so overwhelming to me and Dougie couldn’t take it after about 10 minutes and just cried to go outside. So FIL takes him outside while we finish up shopping. I could spend hours in just this store but know that Dougie is hungry so hurry as quickly as possible. We head over to Rainforest Café to see how long of a wait. We have a table available right now, please go through to the fish tanks. Wow talk about service as there were tons of people standing around waiting on tables. We go in and Dougie is a little uncertain about the ‘monkeys’. I take him around to see all the animals and let him realize that they can’t get to us. Tried to explain they weren’t real but don’t think he got that concept as they were moving. Well at least he was comfortable now and would sit at the table. Oops, time for a thunderstorm. He was completely fine with this and didn’t even acknowledge it. Food arrived and he took about two bites before falling asleep on my lap. How precious a sleeping child is. We took our time eating so he could get as much of a nap out as possible. He wakes as soon as we walk out of Rainforest but is in a much better mood and eats his hotdog as we stroll through the stores. Finish up our shopping and head back to the hotel. Fantastic ~ the fridge had been delivered and was already cool. We planned on heading over to Boardwalk but Dougie’s mood was not going to allow that so we just went down to the food court to eat and hung out at there.

Monday, December 1st
Grab a quick breakfast in the food court and walk over to Magic Kingdom. Headed straight back to Fantasyland and was going for Dumbo when we noticed no line at PhilharMagic so we decided to do that first. Only waited in the holding area a few minutes before being seated and ready for the show. Dougie did really well with keeping his 3D glasses on and enjoyed most of the show. The popping champagne bottles startled him with everyone screaming but not so bad we had to leave or anything. He also was startled for the magic carpet ride as he was grasping to hold onto Doug and I so he wouldn’t fly away. Such a realistic and fun show! Onward to Dumbo, Carrousel, IASW, Peter Pan, and Snow White. Snow White did not go over well at all. Dougie cried anytime the witch came into site and this caused for nervousness from him during anything dark for the rest of the day. Headed over to Buzz but the wait was 45 minutes so tried for the teacups and the wait was 30 minutes. Getting near lunchtime so we decided to head up to Tony’s Town Square for our PS that we had gotten that morning as we came into the park. The food was fantastic and our waiter was the best. The chef came out to our table almost immediately after sitting down since we had noted about Dougie’s nut allergy. Said everything was fine except the sauce served with the bread and some of the desserts. Wonderful service and I hoped all the meals went this well with the nut allergy.

After lunch, jumped on the train and headed over to Frontierland. Grabbed a FP for Splash Mountain and took in Jungle Cruise, Aladdin Carpets, and Pirates while waiting for our FP time. Dougie and in-laws watched the Share a Dream parade while Doug and I headed off to Splash Mountain. I had forgotten how much fun this ride was as it had been a few years since riding it. Met up with in-laws and did some Main Street shopping before heading back to get in a nap.

Went to catch Spectromagic and Wishes before dinner. Watched Spectromagic from the top of the train station but Dougie was not wanting to sit still so we headed back to the room to watch Wishes from the balcony. The fireworks were great but later after getting the dialog we were missing so much that night.

Dinner was at Chef Mickey’s and we had a blast! Dougie had quickly gotten the hang of the autograph book and just loved meeting the characters. And finally he got to see Mickey! He was super excited but Goofy ended up being his favorite. Goofy was pulling his ears out doing a silly dance and Dougie was just laughing so hard he was falling off his chair. It was a moment I will never forget.

This was the Mickey designed by Regis for the 75th Birthday of Mickey. It was outside of Magic Kingdom and quickly became our favorite. If I'm remembering correctly I think they are being auctioned off for charity at some point. Better start saving now!
