tinkerbell's March 2004 adventure

The Cast of this adventure ---- My self
DH * Melvin
oldest * DGD Lisa Summer
and youngest DGD * Barbie.

Even though we were not supose to arrive at WDW till the 8th of March, we couldnt stand it. Specially DH. On March 6th he got up in the best mood I have seen him in for months. And he was insisting that we leave that Saturday, so that I could have more time to spend Sunday with my friend Sea, in Ocala. So we loaded up the van and headed East. We were going to drive straight through to Ocala, where I had a room at a comfort inn for Sunday night, so I could spend most of Sunday with Sea. It didnt work out that way :(. We had barely crossed over in to Florida when DH became very very sick. After several stops, I knew we were going to have to get a motel room soon. So we got a room in Milton. my poor husband was soo sick. We thought then though it was food posioning from a subway wrap he had had for lunch in West Monroe La. earlier that day.
By morning he seemed better, but very weak and pale. We headed out, but the over night in Milton didnt put us in Ocala till late noon. I decided because Melvin wasnt feeling good we wouldnt stop over night in Ocala after all. That I would see about adding a night at Pop Century when we got to Ocala and stopped at the WDW welcoming Center. Which we did with no problems. I also was able to activate our AP's at the WDW welcoming center. So I was not worried about a problem with check in and the AP room rate any more. After spending some time with Sea and her husband ..then taking them to supper, we headed on to P.C. Melvin was really pale and shakey, but Check-in was great and only took a few minutes. I really hoped a good nights rest was all he needed and he would be feeling better the next morning.
Our room was in the 90's building., second floor, room 8220, we had a great parking place and could see the van from the room. After we got the van unloaded. We looked around just a little because everyone was tired. We fell asleep watching one of the WDW resort channels.

I thought that DH was going to be fine when I woke up Monday morning because, I woke up hearing him singing in the shower.. He was making up his WDW wake up song for the girls while he showered. When he came out he did look better, and again we both thought it must of been food poisoning. He sang the girls awake, of course they told him that he cant sing ..and is tone death, so the morning began with them teasing each other.
with two girls and one bathroom ..you have to get ready in shifts .. specially before the girls are up !! Normally I am up first and get everything done ..but he beat me to it that first morning.
Soon we were all dressed and on our way to Chef Mickey's. we didnt have a PS, but that was no problem at all. We didnt have to wait at all. they took us right away to have our picture taken and then straight to a table. Oh and there is my coffee.. after 2 cups I was close to being a human being again. Lisa Summer asked for a reciepe for something. And after checking, our waitress told her to write down what reciepe she wanted, her name and address and it would be sent to her. We had a lot of time with Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale ..they came around at least 3 times, before we were done with breakfast.
After breakfast we headed for Epcot and Mission Space !!!!!!!! Melvin was still having moments when he did not feel well, and he was still a bit pale but he was happy and so excited to be back and get to ride M:S again. We went in the stand by line, instead of getting FP's. But the wait was less then 30 minutes. After We went to Universe of Energy, and then the girls were begging to head for the WSC. I may have the only pre-teen and teenager that love the WSC as much as they do all the other rides and attractions at WDW. After making our way around WSC we headed for JITYI and Honey I shrunk the audience. DH didnt really want much to eat so we had just a bite in the Food Court of the Land. He was starting to feel real bad all over again. But we went back over to M:S and the girls rode it once more. By the time they got off he really needed to go back to the room. But he just had to ride SSE on the way out. We were surprised to find that the area where you exit was being refurbished.
When we got back to the room, I went down to get our mugs and something to drink. got back to our Room to find both I needed to call Mousekeeping for clean bedding :( I was starting to doubt that he had food poisoning because food poisoning does not normally last that long. I was glad that it didnt take them long to bring up the clean bedding, and even though she offered to make up the bed .. I told her I could do it.

Barbie went down and got in the pool one night, actually I think it was the night we got there. But the rest of us never made it down to swim. And most evenings while we were there it was just too cold. Here is a picture of Barbie standing under the Laptop

Tuesday, DH is feeling better, but we are all still looking at him a little worried. Today we are off to MK. Ooo was it crowded !! We made our way to Tomorrowland first, taking the short cut through The Plaza. We were the only ones on that walk way!! I took our passes and went and got FP's for me and the girls. Then we went on TTA and then right to the COP. the wheelchair spaces were taken in COP so they sat DH at the end of the first row. Not the best view :(. After COP we went on Buzz. the girls rode together and I took pictures and video taped them :) DH sat and held all our stuff while the girls and I rode Space Mt. After that we took the back walkway over to Mickey's ToonTown fair. It was so congested that the girls didnt even get to ride Goofy's Barnstormer ..but they did get a picture with Goofy and Max.
We then decided that like last August, DH would go over to Frontierland via his w/c and the girls and I would ride the train around and we would get FP's for Splash and Thunder Mt.s. and then eat lunch at Peco Bill's. Of course DH made it across the park about the same time as it took us to go around on the train because of the crowd. I got the FP's then we went on to lunch. After lunch we all rode Splash Mt. ..then went to Thunder Mt. Because DH was in an electric w/ch we got to ride Thunder Mt. two times in a row. They explained that when we came back from the first trip we would be on the other side ..so they would send us around again, because they do not move electric vehicles. After that it was off to HM !! DH loves HM ..but he really has a hard time getting from the *Dead Center* of the room to the ride. He wont let us ask them to stop the moving walkway. The park was so crowded that it took an awful lot of time to get from one place to another. In heavy crowds, DH is usually lost behind us. And MK on that Tuesday was much like it was in August last year.. wall to wall people. We wanted to see Mickey's Philharmonic so we started over to Fantasyland after HM. 3 times I looked back and we had lost DH in the crowd. I got our FP's for MP. and we went to ride Small World. It took us 10 minutes to get in threw the handicapped enterance because of the flood of people coming out and no one giving us a chance to get in. From there it was over to Snow White's Adventure :) After that the girls went up and got Merlins autograph, and then we sat down near Ariels Grotto to wait on the time for our FP's. While we were there, Mary Poppins and a couple of penquins came out. The girls got a picture with her and autographs.
I have to make a note here about something new .. every ride and attraction now says "Please Watch your children" .. well very few people do :( When we got in MP and tried to make our way to the Handicapped rope there were 3 little kids just running around peoples legs .. thank goodness all it takes for DH to stop his w/c is to stop pushing the stick forward.
This show was the best!!!!!!! We all loved it, my only complaint ..its too short!!! It is by far the best of the 3D shows at WDW!! Someone ( I cant remember who ) on the board said his DS called it Mickey's Feel More Magic.. well I think that name fits it perfectly!!
Next we headed over to the Tiki Room, but the birds had gone to bed for the night :( so we went on the Jungle cruise. They allowed DH to transfer from the w/c to the boat this time. We had a great Guide with perfect timing and perfect dry wit .. yes some of the jokes were ones we had heard before ..but there were new ones tossed in :) I love taking the JC in the evening .. just before dark. After that it was off to the POC ..where we didnt get to ride for an hour because they didnt have a park w/c for DH to transfer to.
We made our way back over to The Plaza where we were hoping to get tables and could eat and watch Wishes from there. We would have never gotten across Mainstreet if it had not been for a CM. There was a sea of people and I didnt know how in the world DH would ever get through them. I turned and told him and the girls that we wouldnt get across the street.. and a sweet CM said "Oh Yes you will" He had this red lighted stick and he cleared a path .. I told him thank you over and over again. No tables :( So we watched Wishes between The Plaza and Tomorrowland. Not a good view but Tink came down right in front of us :)
except for the crowds Mk was a perfect day. DH was completely over the bug he had come down with.

Great trip report so far! I am so glad your DH was feeling better. I think it is awful that a CM had to make people stop just to let you across the street! Love the penguins!! Hope I get to see some when we go! Keep it coming!!! :)

Wednesday morning .. much to my surprise everyone was up and ready to go to AK early!! DH really was finally over the bug, and singing, teasing the girls and racing everyone in his w/c (his w/c goes faster then those EVC's) But ooo was it cold that morning. I couldnt believe how cold it was. When we got to AK the park was not open yet and the lines were way way long. No problem, we went through the Rainforest Cafe Store and I bought the girls both sweat shirts and sweat pants. We were the only ones in there and the only ones to use that enterance in to AK. Barbie was looking for any CM that might be choosing the families for the Jamming Jungle Parade. she loves this parade and has wanted to be in it every since she first saw it. But it never happened :(. Even though there were long lines waiting to get in to AK the park really did not seem at all crowded once we got in the park and people began to spread out.
Our first stop .. Its Tough to be a Bug. No wait other then 5 minutes at the door once we were under the Tree of Life. We checked the time for Tarzan Rocks and seeing that we had plenty of time before the first show we went to Ride Dinosaur. DH needed a few minutes after Dinosaur.. he loves the ride but the rocking, bouncing and dark really make him sick. While he recovered from that the girls went and rode that evil Primeval whirl. DH and I rode it once the year before last and got off feeling banged up and bruised so we never go near it now. After the girls got off Primeval whirl we found Daisy Duck dressed in a dinosaur costume and the girls got her autograph and a picture. there were a couple of dino's walking around but the girls were not interested in them..
We then head over to Tarzan Rocks ..wow I am sorry we have missed this show in the past because it was great ..but DH and I both think the guy that was singing is the same guy who was Ken a few years ago at Epcot when they were having the Barbie Show. We got there early enough that we had our choice of the handicapped view area's and the CM's suggested that we take the middle because it was the best viewing.
I have to stop and say that we had the best CM interaction in years!!! Only once did we get a sour faced CM who looked and spoke as if she would rather be any where but disney. Every Cast Member we came in contact with was smiling, friendly, and seemed more then happy to help in any way possible!!
Ok back to Tarzan Rocks .. the CM's were right .. our seats were great. The Show was great!!! Near the end the guy singing came up to our Area .. he shook hands with DH and Barbie and with some of the family members we were sharing the handicapped sitting area with.
The girls are nice and warm ..they are wearing the sweat pants and shirts I got them in the Rainforest as we came in ..but DH and I are shaking and shivering. The temp that day barely got in to the 60's I think, if it got that warm!
After Tarzan Rocks we had lunch at our favorite Flame Tree BBQ DH loves those Ribs!! Lisa and I had the BBQ chicken salad mmmm my mouth is watering right now remembering how good it was. Barbie had a BBQ chicken sandwich. We were sitting in the disabiled area ..and had it all to our selves except for an egret or crane .. ( Lisa told me which one it was .. but I cant remember .. any way one of those tall white birds) of course the girls had to feed it.
After lunch we headed for Aisa. As cold as it was ..Barbie insisted on doing the Kali River Rapids .. she was alone doing it !! The wait was on 5 minutes in the standby .. I figure because most people thought it was too cold to get soaked too. While Barbie is on the KRR, we waited for her near the enterance to Maharajah jungle trek .. Lisa suddenly makes a mad dash for the bathroom. She is in there a while .. I go to look for her ..and she is at the sink with a wet paper towel, looking as pale as a ghost. She said she got sick .. she starts out of the bathroom with me .. but doesnt make it out the door and she is sick again!! She lost all of her lunch. It was back to the room for her. I made sure she had her grandpa's cell phone which had my number in it on speed dial and went back to AK where Barbie and DH were waiting. I found them waiting for me at the Kilimanjaro Safari and the line wasnt bad ..but then something happen .. they said an animal got in the road and backed up all the trucks. So we were in line over an hour. But in the line we met and talked to a real nice couple and thier daughter.. that was another thing about this trip ..we met and spoke to so many really nice people!! There was one really funny thing though about our conversation .. the young woman said she lived in Florida, her parents were from some place up north .. well they were wanting to go ride the Terminator and were all convinced that it was at WDW.. I still dont think they believed us when we told them that was at Universal. They were behind us in line .. but in front of us in line were some of those people that needed to watch thier children :( .. there was a man in front of man on a WDW EVC .. and the kids, 3 all under 7 it seemed were climbing on it and everything else .. 6 adults in that group and not one of them paying a bit of attention to those children .. twice one little girl climbing on the back of the EVC jumped down and fell in front of DH's w/c.
When we finally got to the truck and got on the ride it was great ..but then guess what .. we got backed up again because of another animal :) After we got off while going to Pangani Forest Trail, I tried calling Lisa in the room ..but I couldnt get a signal for my cell phone ( the whole time we were there I had trouble getting one) So when we finished the PFET, I went to find a pay phone and DH and Barbie got in the handicapped viewing area for the parade. Called Lisa and she said she was as sick as grandpa had been. Asked her if she needed me to come to the room and she said no .. she wanted to try and sleep. I told her as soon as the parade was over we would be on our way back to the room, which we did ..but on the way out of AK Barbie found Lilo and Stitch ..she had a blash with them. She had bought a Stitch backpack and Lilo took it and hugged it .. then Stitch got it. This was just one of many times this trip that either or both of the girls had wonderful interaction with characters. yes I know most people would think my DGD's are too old for this ..but they dont think so :) They love it now as much as they did when they were small and so do we :)
We get back to the Pop Century and Lisa is sooo sick .. I went down to the food court and store ... hoping to get her some jello and some kind of clear broth maybe.. no luck :( the best I could bring her back was power aid and some crackers. None of which stayed down :( She was sick all night long ..and it was another night when I had to call mousekeeping for clean bedding.
