just yesterday in her email to me she said
Quote:
(PS Tom Caroll makes me cry with laughter, he is such a hoot-his posts are hilarious I can't wait for his trip report)
I have no problem at all believing that you had to answer those very stupid questions to get into the United States .. to buy a gun they ask you if you have ever killed anyone and gone to prison or if you are insane ..if you answer no you get to buy a gun :dazed
please dont keep us hanging .. with this being only the beginning of the adventure I knw with out a doubt I am going to be laughing daily!!!

I love your sense of humor!!! I also love hearing about airport troubles because I too ALWAYS have trouble. Don't feel alone about having to anwser stupid security questions. Before 9/11 when you checked in for a domestic airline flight you were asked two of the stupidest questions ever invented by the FAA, they were along the lines of:
1) Has your bags been in your possesion at all times?
OK not too bad. The next one was the real doozie.
2) Has anyone asked you to carry anything on board this flight, such as a gun or bomb?
Yes!!! I am going to tell you I have a bomb in my bag!
Now in the post 9/11 world we just search the bad to no end and search you to no end as well.

Tom, this is perhaps the best trip report I have ever read in all of my month-and-a-half at DC, and in it you haven't even arrived south of the Mason-Dixon Line! I am anxiously awaiting the second installment. In fact, I may disregard my various obligations today so that I can watch over the forum and be the first to read Chapter 2!
One thought struck me, however, in your paragraph regarding the fire alarm at your London hotel. Let me have the privilege of informing you that when we Americans are spending time in the airport parking lot at 2:30 in the morning (whether by unfortunate incident or recreationally), we ALWAYS wear paper-thin underpants and a trench coat! To do it any other way would simply be unheard of -- practically punishable by jail time.
So you are more American than you thought.
And now, please, sit at your keyboard and get to work on the next episode!

Oh my Tom - imagine returning from a hiatus from Disney Central, to a brand new look and your incredible trip report. I am still laughing!! (Although I did warn you about that "unique" Montreal culture!) I'm loving every word. Thank you so much. Keep it coming.

See Tom this is why I don't fly, especially over seas
1) Everything bad that can happen, will happen, and only to me
2) I don't know how but I'm sure the second I get to Europe I will be charged with something
3)by the end of the trip I shall be exiled back to the USA and must remain within their borders indefinitely

Re: Tom's Travels - Episode One

"This has been the case ever since our American colonies were granted independence all those years after my father?s house was built."

You Brits must have the story all wrong.. . . GRANTED independence??? Us Yanks TOOK our independence!! Ha, Ha! Didn't like some old chap by the name of George if I remember the story correctly.

Anyway, great trip report. I just started reading it today and can't wait to read the rest.

I have to admit, I am learning a lot of things I have forgotten over the years. I said to him last night, "We had to fight pretty hard to be free Americans didn't we?" He said, "Yeah, we had to put up with a bunch of poop." I said, "Yep, and we still are, freedom is still being faught to this very day. Learning about our independance really makes you appreciate our country and why it is important to fight for it. That's why our President is commited to protecting us."

Of course he already knows that. His greatest hero is George W. Bush.
