Trade gone bad?

I'm only hearing the 9 year old side of this as I didn't witness it, but apparently my son had some things stolen in a trade he was making for a magic pin. According to him, he and this other person agreed on the trade, and the other person told him to press "accept" and so my ds did, expecting the pin in return, but there was no pin and the person disappeared.

He reported it to VMK with my help, but is there anyone who uses the game that can enlighten me on how something like this can happen, and how to prevent it from happening again? He is VERY upset.

Re: Trade gone bad?

I wish I could help...this is not an isolated case...some other players have had all kinds of things stolen including teleporters and magic pins.

Ay, that's awful! This could happen if the other person didn't put his magic pin in, and just told your son to click "accept", therefore he would be giving all of his things, and the scammer wouldn't be giving anything. That's horrible! I hope you guys get justice!

I'd be willing to bet that the thief on the other side was a kid who's never been held accountable for his choices. I can hear the parents now, "Well, you know how kids are. It's only a game."

To prevent this, you must be sure both items are in the trade window before accepting. If you click accept and the item is then removed, the accept button is unchecked again because something was changed. I understand this was propably his first trade, but he can prevent this from happening in the future. What pin did he have stolen, I will give him one to replace it.

I Spidey. You are so sweet.
I bet DW's son is heartbroken, it's hard to get those pins.

Actually the thief told him that he was going to give him a magic pin. He lost some furniture and other room items. It's not a big deal as far as virtual possessions go - he's worked his way up to three rooms and each one is full. It's the trust of a deal that has now been lost, and he's heartbroken. He was in tears once he realized what this person had done.

Thank you for the offer though - that was so sweet! Hopefully Disney will come through.

I'm now considering taking him off the game - what good is it to deal with some lowlife, God knows who, that has no problem stealing from kids? Even if it is virtual. We are about to head out to take the VMK tour of Disneyland, so it has become very real to him. I'm not so sure this is a good thing.

I'm also not ready to let him participate in a message board - he's only 9, Disney or not.

For now, though, I've told him no trades unless it is someone he knows (all of his friends are on the game).

When he clicks accept, is he at the point of no return? How can he ensure that the trade is still good before clicking accept? How can he verify it?

I recommend you playing the game some. It really is quite fun and you will know first hand what to expect. I don't think there is a need to take him off the game. As I was saying, only click accept once everything to be traded is on screen. After you have clicked accept, if the other party or your son removes something, the button will uncheck itself because a change was made. But only click accept once everything is on screen. I truly have no problem giving him the pin that was stolen. I realize he had furniture and items up for the trade, but the pin is what he was trying to obtain, so that was the stolen item to me. Which pin was he promised? It is possible he has it and does not realize it, does he know where to check his pin inventory? I have no problem giving him the one promised, I think it will benefit him more than anyone by showing him compassion from others and that you can trust people you know... he also needs to get people on his friends list that he can trust and ask questions of before doing something too quickly.

Finally, I don't think Queensmama meant he necessarily participate just go to the site to get all the codes, tips, and information that is posted there (mostly by me ). Although I don't see that forum being any different from playing VMK honestly. Most of the members there are very young and/or from Disney Central already. Best solution would be for you to set up an account there and either view it with him or just get the info for him.

Basically, Spider said everything I was about to say...but better. It is possible that he just didn't see it... pins do not show up in your "items" tab, but they have a tab of their own called "pins".

Re: Trade gone bad?

Ask him to let you press the accept button for him... you will be able to see on the screen what is being traded. This might also deter thieves.
