Mail Order Pal Mickey Malfunction?

I got my Pal Mickey yesterday that I ordered from Disney Character Warehouse in the Dolphin Mall in Miami, but he seems a little lost. I thought that at home he was supposed to tell jokes, play games, and do WDW trivia. Unfortunately my poor little guy will only say five phrases:; 1) he introduces himself as Mickey, 2) tells one Pluto joke, 3) says the haunted mansion is just ahead, 4) says the ride on space mountain is short right now, and 5) says Minnie is over at tune town fair. What's up? I wonder if I can get him exchanged in the park or if I'll have to mail him back to the mall in Florida? This is a bummer as I'd plan to ship him down to the hotel and have them put him on the bed with a bunch of balloons for my GD. Anyone else having problems with theirs?

Did he come with instructions? He sounds like he is malfunctioning. I'd return him.

When is your trip? If it's very soon, maybe you can bring him with you and exchange him at WDW or see if a CM can re-program him. If your trip is not coming up real soon or they can't fix him at WDW, then by all means send him back!!!

Sounds like he wasnt programmed activated. he probably has to be programmed ( when you activate him in the park or at hotel gift shops they program him so he works)

Re: Mail Order Pal Mickey Malfunction?

Just an idea. They have to program Pal Mickey at the resorts or the parks. When we rented ours at POR last year. The CM behind the counter took the little guy out of a package (he was new) and put him on this little counter-looking thing and programmed the card on him. It's just my guess, but I don't think that the one that you have received has been programmed yet and you need to take him to WDW for that and then see if he works. That's just my thoughts, and I would do that before I contemplated returning him because I thinking having him programmed will solve his problems.

I didn't realize that they would have to be programmed. Sounds like your poor Mickey missed a step.

Oops! Yes, sort of. I found out he was never really broke. Because I planned to send him back down to the hotel to have them put him on my GDs bed to be waiting for us, I didn't take him out of the box. I was just squeezing his hand through the open front of the box. If you take him out and read the instructions you find he will chatter a few prases even if he is not on. To make him really work you have to unzip his back and turn the switch to on. Well, who would have thought the little fellow would talk if he wasn't switched on? I'm so embarrassed. I used to give my husband a hard time about never reading instructions and he always said it was a man thing--well I guess not always.

Re: Mail Order Pal Mickey Malfunction?

I got one at the outlet store in St. Augustine FL and I turned him on, but he still only says a few things, but from what I understand he does need to be programed, but, from what I read, he needs to be in the park... to be fully functional... but once programed, I think he will work ok... I was able to pick him up from the charactor Premier which is the outlet for the theme parks... they had lots of them... and was at a really good price... I paid 27.99 for him... so if any one is needing it... they may still have some available... šošJudy

Re: Mail Order Pal Mickey Malfunction?

We bought ours at Downtown Disney.... it did the same as yours until we turned it on and walked into the Magic Kingdom the next day. It worked perfectly the whole time.

That was October... my son still plays with it here at home and it tells all kinds of different jokes and plays the "Mickey Says" game. You'll be looking for the "off" switch after a while!

I ordered mine like on a Thursday and got him on Tuesday. If you haven't received yours yet, I think I would call. The CM told me 7-10 working days and I got him in four working days (Florida to Texas). The other poster said hers played Mickey says? Mine plays three games: Mickey says, Not here, and (oops I forgot the third one). He also tells corny jokes. I can't wait to get him in the parks, to see what else he can do.

Thanks- they actually called me to say that they had not sent it yet- apparently they had to stop mailing them last week because of the holiday rush. It was mailed yesterday- Santa is going to rock!!!

Do you have a # for that store? I have one that I got from WDW when they first came out, but at $28 I may get one for my nephew who is 14 months old
