Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

Pal Mickey is an interactive stuffed animal that plays games and tour guide. It lets you know when parade are starting and other little tid-bits about the parks. It is worked by a satelite of some sort and is updated as soon as you enter a WDW park. Yes, I think a five year old would get a kick out of it.

It tells you info. about the rides, can let you know where the lines are short, and tells jokes. It also plays 3 different games that you can play at home or at the parks.

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

I personally felt like it was a waste of money for my 5 yr old. Yes, he liked it and it is a souvenier but a pretty pricey one. As for the talking much of it was over his head and hard to understand overall. I did not find it gave many tips. If you feel like spending money then it's ok but if your budget is tight then I would skip it for sure.

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

You can get them a BIT cheaper on ebay, but DW & I still decided it wasn't worth the money. Of course, the time of year we go there's few lines and always a good seat for a parade. (I can't imagine spending an hour of my day holding a spot for a ten minute parade!)

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

You may be able to get quite a deal on a Pal Mickey by the time of your trip. Pal Mickey version 2.0 is coming out this spring so we're expecting them to try to "clear the shelves" of the original edition in time to hawk the newer version.

With that in mind, and since it's already been mentioned that some of what Mickey says won't mean much to a five year old, you may want to wait until another trip to try out Pal Mickey. That way you can have the new and improved version. Of course, if you can find him for a song AND your budget will tolerate it without giving anything else up, he is a fun addition and alot of jokes and antics would still be entertaining.

BTW, Pal Mickey has a fan site at www.PalMickey.net. You can see lots of pics of some fun and unique ways that his fans have found to dress him up and otherwise make him "feel special."

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

We purchased a Pal Mickey during our last trip to WDW. My entire family loved him then and still do today. I noticed that he reacted more while in Animal Kingdom that in any other park. He seemed to be able to notify us of upcoming animal habitats just before we were able to see them.

As for the price...I paid full price at a gift shop at Animal Kingdom. Tax and all it was about $60.00. I did hear that a new version of Pal Mickey is about to be released or has been. I also read on another disney forum that the Disney Character Warehouse in FL was selling them for half price during November. You may want to check each of the three Disney discount stores in the area. If you are interested I can check my receipts from each the stores for a phone number. Good Luck!

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

I rented the Pal Mickey on my recent trip and it was such a wast of money!
I have a 6yr old who wasn't too impressed with it after 5mins.
Half the time it didn't work and the other times it wasn't too helpful.
It told jokes and gave us info while we were at AK, that's about it.
This was our 1st trip to WDW so I wanted to rent it but I would never rent it again! (I did get 2 days credited back to me that it wasn't working)

Anyways, I thought this was being discontinued to rent in the parks?

Re: What is A Pal Mickey?

I bought one at the ASMovies gift shop and took it up to our room so it could be "waiting" on our 4 yo DS when he went into our room. Seeing his face was priceless!! It is a cool trinket form our trip and we did have fun with it in the parks...however, the price was steep so if you can find it for a deal I'd say get it!
