flights flights flights....

I've just spent some time on the computer desparately searching for flights. For some reason, I'm afraid to book the flight!

We can fly Northwest for about 201 per person, but the flights all have
stops. Basically on the way down:
We'll leave Boston at 6:50 am
arrive Orlando at 12:10pm

On the way home:

depart orlando at 7:25 am
arrive boston at 2:08

That's a lot of travel time, BUT anything direct is $400.

What do you think? I've never flown northwest.

Thanks,
Lisa

Re: flights flights flights....

Can't help you there...never flown Northwest. I would keep looking for a direct flight...I hate layovers or changing planes! We used to fly direct on Delta from Dallas to Orlando. We have several free trips from skymiles. With Delta's recent restructuring, they no longer fly anywhere I go non stop! So I guess my travel plans (or attitude!) will have to change.

I've never flown Northwest either. I don't know exactly what time of the year you are going for, but if it is in the month of April BOOK IT. April fares are high because of Easter.

Have you checked Ted or Song? I recently learned of Ted, it is through United. Go to www.united.com and click on where it says Ted.

If you can give me some dates then I can do some searching for you.

Re: flights flights flights....

My dates are April 13 - 24th. The problem seems to be the 24th - that leg of the trip are extremely high.

I'm off to check on ted now - thanks!

Re: flights flights flights....

Just checked ted - doesn't fly out of Boston or PVD - bummer.

I checked spirit - too high on the return trip.

So far, it's northwest I think.

Re: flights flights flights....

I couldn't find much. I found Airtran with $255, but they all required connections. If you found Northwest at $202 BOOK IT!!! Thats a great deal.

Plus they are only stops, that is a step up from connections, because that plane isn't going to leave without you, and overall their is less chance of a delay with that.

I would also research flying with JetBlue. It is an amazing airline and I flew with them this summer and was treated very well. Their rates are usually very inexpensive and they offer 4 non-stop flights daily from Boston-Logan to Orlando International. http://www.jetblue.com

Re: flights flights flights....

We always drive!!!

I was just reading on CNNMoney.com that Delta is lowering fares and restrictions to get more business so they don't have to file for bankruptsy.

Just for kicks I tried your dates and that 24th is a stinker, but if you could extend your trip by just one day, you can get direct flights each way for $258 per person.

Price per passenger: $258.60 (USD)
Depart (song 1975) Coach (K) BOS 6:30am
Arrive MCO 13 Apr 2005 MCO 9:25am

Depart Delta 630 Coach (K) MCO 11:42am
25 Apr 2005 BOS 4:54pm

Lisa:

Even from up here, that's a long enough trip that you should consider driving. You're going during spring break and it will be very difficult to find good airfares.

That said, if you're set on flying, go ahead and book JetBlue. They'll more than likely have the best direct flight fares and they're a terrific airline. That's all I'll fly.

Does southwest fly out of Boston? We just got an awesome fare from them. Are there any alternate airports you could drive to to save $$$. For instance, we are flying out of PHL which is a 2 hour drive for us but we are saving $5o per ticket, which means $250 for our familly.

Re: flights flights flights....

I flew Northwest this summer and had a terrible experience. It was bad enought aht I swore I would never fly on them again. First, I had confirmed seats for me and my two kids that they gave to someone else because a large group had booked and wanted to sit together. They failed to tell me, so when we showed up at the airport they tried to put my daughter on the plane and my son and I on the next flight. I refused and got very upset. Then, they said someone was nice enought to allow my son and I to have their seats, but we would all 3 be split up. Since my son is only 5 I refused and they told me that if I don't take it then we would lose our flight. When I put the kids in their seats, my son started crying. Luckily a lady traded seats with me, but the airline employees never tried to help and didn't even aplogize. I wrote a letter to complain about how I was treated and never even got a response. I would rather pay more money and fly any other airline. We fly several times a year and have never been treated as badly as we were by Northwest. If you decide to use them I hope it is better for you.

Re: flights flights flights....

Lisa:

I just did a little more checking and if you can still get NW for 201 round-trip for those dates, JUMP ON IT!

The best I've been able to find is Delta for $249 with one-stop out of Providence. I don't know where you got your $201 quote, but you should make the reservations now if you can still get that.

I haven't flown Northwest in years, but it's maintained a quietly solid reputation for years. You should feel comfortable flying them.

We flew southwest-direct in November and it was @400$. We have flown northwest before and found them to be an excellent airline. You have to decide how much your time is worth to you. for us flying direct made sense. Good luck.

I agree with Karliebug. Did you consider trying for Southwest out of Providence or Hartford. I'd try.
