Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

[quote=DisneyWorldFan]I haven't read all the responses herein, so I hope this isn't repeating. We pre-ship a box (or two) to ourselves at the hotel. We ship an inexpensive toaster and coffee pot (we find the one in the room is too small...typically we're 3 adults traveling). We include instant oatmeal packets, tea bags, hot chocolate, hard candies and gum (you won't find these for sale at WDW), etc.
We also ship lots of other items so we don't have to carry them in our luggage (curling iron, hair products, mouthwash, etc).

I absolutely love this idea! We're flying, so I was thinking of packing a suitcase and then it would be empty for us to use for souviniers at the end of the trip... I think if we want bread for pb&j's we'll have to carry a loaf of bread in our hands!
How do you estimate the shipping time to get it there on the right date? How much does it usually cost you?

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

a trick for saving money on souvenirs i heard about recently if you have a Camera cell phone (you could also use your digital camera)- if you see something you want to buy, take a picture of the item, then go out side and take a picture of the sign of the shop. that way, on the night before your last day, you can decide on what things you REALLY want and go get them before you go home. if you run out of park entries, dont worry. just go to the gate of the park that you need to get something from, tell them you want to go in and get something from a gift shop. they will hold a CC number and allow you 1 hour to run in and get what you need. if you spend more than an hour though, they will charge you with a days admission, and they only allow 1 person from your party at a time. you can also do disney souv. by mail order too... i cant remember the phone number, but i saw it on allearsnet.com, so you can find it there for sure.

Super great idea!

I'm loving these tips, Duh! Taking uncrustables is much easier than my idea of packing pb&j, a knife and then carrying a loaf of bread onto the plane to keep it from getting smashed!

OK, I know what the theme of this thread is, and I'm also commenting on an 18 month old post, but I've got a slightly different take on this.
I have a really nice poncho that cost me $15 in 1994. I still have it and use it. Yes, you can buy the throw away ponchos for 89 cents each, but they add up over time. My poncho paid for itself a long time ago.
Why do people feel compelled to wear Disney shirts in Disney parks? And what's with the groups of 15 all wearing the same custom shirt? Don't they get smelly after a day? How many did you make, or are you washing them every night? You don't HAVE to wear that Dopey shirt at WDW. Wear your sports team, wear your shirt advertising your lawn service, wear a shirt from Universal! Don't be the guy at the Kiss concert wearing the Kiss t-shirt! You don't need to be in uniform! Now, when it comes to shopping for t-shirts, look for the more unique styles, the special designs. It's quality over quantity. Teach the kids that while they're young, and also teach them not to automatically run with the crowd. They'll be healthier for it.
Sorry for being preachy.

Listen to Me DONT DO THE CHEAP SKATE THING AND STAY OUT SIDE THE GROUNDS! I made that huge mistake its cheaper in the long run I had to pay for taxis to take me back because I seemed to always miss the bus that only showed up 3 times 7.00 10.00 and 12.00! after that your stuck.disney buses come every 15 ninutes.

Obviously I would never do such a thing.

Perhaps somebody can do a poll to see what % of people on this site have done such a deed.

John

I can honestly say that the most I've ever "stolen" from a buffet meal (not just disney, but at any buffet) is 1 chocolate chip cookie I had already taken. It'd have been tossed anyway! I just filled up on Ice Cream instead. I simply wrapped it in a napkin, and put it in my purse.

That was the only time I've ever done that, though.

Welcome to Mouse Buzz, you really will learn about Disney here. I never thought of 90% of the items that are discussed.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

I just have a question, shipping is not cheap wouldn't it be better to just go to the grocery store and buy the items? I have shipped things down in the past. It does work for somethings but others I would just go to the grocery store and purchase some of the essentials and everyone can just chip in for the items.

We used gardengrocer.com and they were FANTASTIC!!!! I found the prices to be very fair and some things were even cheaper than I pay in California We had them deliver things like a half gallon of milk, a loaf of rasin bread, string cheese, sliced apples, WATER, juice boxes, etc. Even with the $10 delivery fee and a tip we made out with a huge savings on the water alone We had enough to last us the whole week, and the snacky stuff was great to have on hand.

They have a great web site, but are wonderful on the phone too. The delivery guy arrived about 50 minutes after we arrived at POFQ, he came right to our room and unpacked our goods. Everything was packed well, we had no complaints. If you want them to deliver without you there, I was told they are able to leave the goods with the bell desk--there are fridges.

Even if you have a car, it might be worth your time to have stuff delivered.
