I really like this thread. I like that so many other people are willing to share ways of saving money. What I don't like is the people who pop in from time to time and call us all trailer trash, or poor, or ridicule us for having to save money just because we want to go on a vacation, too.

The trailer park comment on the last page was a low blow, and yet, the person who wrote it ridicules US for a lack of upbrining? I may not live in a trailer park now, but I lived in one a few years back. Does that mean because I did, and because I want to keep a trip low cost, that I'm trailer trash? No, it doesn't.

How about this- if you don't like that some people are not rich enough to spend $5,000 on a trip, then don't look in a thread designed to let people save a few dollars here and there.

I don't agree with all the methods posted, nor would I resort to stealing food from buffets just to make sure we get our extra money's worth. However, I don't think anyone really has the right to sit around judging others, either, or calling them trailer trash simply because we might not all have oodles of exces cash laying around.
Well, in all the Disney vacations that I have taken I have not spent LESS then 5,000. By the time we book our trip for 8 days with all the extras that's 3,300.00 right there, then plus all the money on food and what not, it's easy 5,000. But, don't get me wrong Iam all for saving some bucks I know personally were not big on breakfast but I do like my family to eat something before going out to the parks, we stay at the CBR and I usually get children's meals for breakfast for each of us, and that's plenty for us, that saves us money. Sometimes my two girls who are 13 and 20 split a meal for dinner, because there not real big eatters, that's a money saver as well. I suppose if you put the pencil to it, there's a lot of ways to save!

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

We live in Florida and there is no way that we could spend $5000 per trip that we go, and we try to save money in a lot of different ways... I don't eat a lot so I will order a childs meal at times and it does save us money. We go several times a year. I take my grandchildren for their birthdays in addition to going during the flower festival and the food and wine festival... and we could not go as often if it cost us $5000 a trip.... but we still enjoy it as much as if we had spent that much money and thank goodness for this thread. I have learned some ways to save a little money, and I hope that any tip that I gave will help someone else save a little money. Thanks so much for this thread...

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Thanks for the welcome. When am I going to the World? Not soon enough!

Before joining I thought I had been there quite a few times ('86 w/new wife,
'00 w/family, '02 w/family, '05 w/family & sis-in-laws family) but after seeing how many times some of you have been there

No immediate plans but always planning. I won't post to this thread again until I have a tip. Want to stay on topic and stay out of trouble.

I will say this though, I think the best money saving tip IS to plan. You don't just "wing" Disney World.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

hi there

I spent $15,000 australian dollars on my last trip to WDW in dec 06 [ thats about $12,500 usd].....and it was only my son josh and I for 12 nights at POR and contemporary, but I saved for 3 years and found heaps of ways to save on accom/ airfare etc......and traveling from australia is costly, but worth it.Airfare alone was $4400 aud [ $3500usd]

i am now planing my jan 09 trip, 7 nights wdw and 4 nights DCL plus traveling around northern florida for a week...want to show my husband where all his money went as he didnt travel with us the last few times

please keep the money saving hints coming along....my tips are
1. save all your change in a wdw money box and bank it in a seperate account
2.dont buy coffee at the train station every morning..saving me around $500usd [$770aud] a year...in three years thats my wdw accomodation saved
3.go thru a great disney travel agent, they can find you great deals on accom etc.
4.book airfare early, when they just release the flights.

but the best tip.....enjoy the whole process...I get heaps of fun out of just planing the trip..many, many hours of enjoyment surfing the sites, listening to disney radio...for free!!
And the memories I now have with my son are PRICELESS!!!

Have a great disney day

Karen

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Be flexible with dates. We originally booked for July, but then a code came out for May and we switched dates, and now it saved us almost 800 bucks! I wish I could go when free dining is offered, but I work retail and that is busy back to school season and there is NO WAY I could get that off.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Of all the saving in WDW it's got to be the dining plan. If you can plan around dining by all means do it. It's one of the most costly events there. ( unless you take from the buffets). ok, ok I am done with that topic....
