I've been to DisneyWorld 5 times now, and this is the first time I've heard of this! Wish I would have known about it last month when we were there!

I know it's not for everyone, but if you've made the decision to make WDW your main vacation spot, the savings can become significant.

I have a question for you regarding your DVC membership...

Have your annual "fees" gone up at all since you initially signed up? We went on the tour last month, but we're not really sure we want to do it, because of the annual fees (which our sales person neglected to tell us about! ) . We also read somewhere that the annual fees can increase any time and as often as they deem necessary. So, at the end of our tour, we felt like the "best kept Disney secret" was the fact that there's annual fees that you have to pay on top of your montly payment...

LOL! We had one at the Toluca Legs place at Hollywood Studios, and it was NASTY! Full of gristle and fat! I usually like turkey legs, but after that one, I don't think I'll be eating another one for quite some time!

I'm not realy sure about this, I wouldn't say I have tips or this is a tip but ....
Four of us were thirsty before wishes but didn't want to have four individual drinks. So we got 2 large sodas and shared.

Alot of people can save a fortune doing this, its easy to pick up the extra straws...or you could ask for 2 smaller cups filled with ice and then just divide the drinks up if everyone wanta their own cup! Have seen this done many times! Would do it myself if I didnt take my own water bottle into the parks everyday lol!

We all know that the BBB @ Mk is expensive, so to make my girls feel special, I got some fake colored hair clip ons, glitter make-up etc. and decked them out. I think they looked just as cute !

They used to have meal vouchers, but no longer. The post you quoted was from 2005.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

I have NO CLUE if I put this tip on here before.

Bring a bottle of water in for each person. Bring some of those Crystal Light or similar Sugar Free drink packets. Ask for a cup of ice water at ANY counter service place...it's free. Put it in your empty water bottle and enjoy a REALLY cheap beverage! And you can save your snack credits for other stuff, if you have the Dining Plan!

At home, I buy Hawaiian Punch Sugar Free Drink Packets and Wylers Light Sugar Free/Caffeine Free Drink Packets...a dollar a box! YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT!!!!

Kim, that is a really good tip. I am going to try that on our next trip.

Yeah, this is my main concern about wanting to buy into it. I think I can afford(maybe) the monthly payments, but the fees may be to much for me. I would like to know more about this. True the savings is so much better if you plan on going to Disney every year, but the fees, well, that I am not so sure about.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Is a DVC like a time share inside WDW property? You have only one week unless you pay for two? You pay monthly til it's paid for. But, then you have to pay annual fees on top of that for taxes & maintenance? Plus, these extras could go up every year?

Here are a few frugal tips:

For Laundry: If you need to wash clothes, bring along a small container filled with liquid detergent from home, just enough for the few loads you'll do. It saves big at the laundrymat machine.

For Rain: Stop at the Dollar General before you arrive and pick up some
2-for-1 rain ponchos.

For Snacks: While at the Dollar general check out their snacks (Smarties, Sweetarts, Pringles, and things that won't melt)

For Gifts: The local Disney store may have what you want, offical Disney merchandise, at less than you would pay on site. Pack it and gift it there.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

A couple of days ago I got an email from CVS Pharmacy about signing up in their photo dept. When you sign up they give you free prints and then when you enter your CVS card # they give you even more. I did that and now have 50 free 4x6 print credits on my account. I am saving them for our Oct trip.

A lot of online photo places (like Snapfish) also give free prints when you first sign up. Plus you can also do photo books, cards, postcards etc and a lot of them have Disney backgrounds and borders.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

When we go on vacation we really don't cut costs. We save long & hard to enjoy our vacations. It's been 4 years since we've been to Disney so we are doing it up. We're taking a limo to the airport, staying 11 days at a Deluxe resort, got a luxury rental because we want to do some things outside of Disney. Because of all our extras we want..we can't go as often as other people. I have friends that go often but stay off-site or in a value resort. They bring coolers and snacks. That's just not us..it wouldn't seem like a vacation if we had to do that. But then again, if we did cut costs we would be able to go to WDW or another vacation more often. Maybe next vacation I'll stay at a moderate and forget the rental car. That alone will save me $2500.
