Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
one cheepskate tip that i have we have used for the last two trips: if you're staying at a value resort and don't want to spend a lot of money on food, eat at the food court. have something to eat before you leave for the parks, that way, you have something in your belly. this will save you money for a nice dinner. we've done this for both trips and it worked out well.

I have also taken the soup crackers that they have and put jelly on them for a great snack for my daughter. Both the crackers and jelly are free

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
We drive form Mississippi. So I take stuff to eat for at least lunch on the way down & the drive back home. We always take snacks in the car. & our own drinks. We send a box of dry goods to the hotel where we stay. (That was the first tip i learned on DC.)
We try to stay somewhere that has a small kitchen. I make scrambled eggs & toast for breakfast, sometimes. We also take several items to have in the room. Bread, Sandwhich meat, summer sausage & cheese, rice krispies, snack items to take into park, cheese & crackers, peanut butter, tuna fish (in the flat packs), chips & dip, snack packs, popcorn. We take the already cooked bacon & make BLT's for a nice change. We buy fruit in the park. I take a sandwhich maker. It looks like a waffle maker. I made hot ham & cheese sand, Grilled cheese sandwhiches. I also took apple pie filling and made apple turnovers. The place where we stayed had a free continental breakfast. If we were pressed for time we would sometimes stop by on the way to the parks and grab an apple & box of dry cereal to snack on, on the way to park. Also the place where we last stayed had a Managers special every night by the pool at the bar, from 4 to 6pm. All the wine & beer & soda you want. My DH does not drink so we would sit by the pool & i would partake in the beveages. The kids would swim for 2 hrs every night. Then we would go up to the room & i would cook us something or we would go out to eat. We like to eat at ESPN (we eat there every time we are there) so that would be our big meal for that day.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
I have to admit to getting a table at sci fi and sharing one wish of the adults between 5 of us- it was only a snack and I wanted the kids to see the place - my sister used her own wish for her own meal but as far as my gang went we shared one meal. I also loved the 30 min grocery stop! That Rocked!

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
When the kids were little I always packed a cooler an kept it in the trunk. We ate lunch in the parking lot. And I carried a backpack full of snacks.

You guys are so good...I am learning so much... I hope everyone else is as well.
By the time I finish reading all this again, Disney may have to pay me to go this summer! (LOL)

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
I haven't read all the responses herein, so I hope this isn't repeating. We pre-ship a box (or two) to ourselves at the hotel. We ship an inexpensive toaster and coffee pot (we find the one in the room is too small...typically we're 3 adults traveling). We include instant oatmeal packets, tea bags, hot chocolate, hard candies and gum (you won't find these for sale at WDW), etc.
We also ship lots of other items so we don't have to carry them in our luggage (curling iron, hair products, mouthwash, etc). We use a town car service since it's cheaper and much more convenient than using Mears. Quicksilver is the BEST service, and we take advantage of the grocery stop. We purchase Diet Pepsi and lots of water, etc. The water is very expensive at WDW, and we use this water for our coffee/tea/oatmeal since the water from the taps has too much sodium.

I like to save money on planes, cars, resorts but once we are there, it's eat, drink and be merry!!! These are lousy times in this world now, mean, and dangerous people are everywhere. So, if I am lucky enough to be somewhere like Disney I will do whatever we want to do and not worry about the cost!

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip
Personally, I hate finding gum everywhere at WDW... You can find gum all through the queue areas, especially on the inside walls of Splash Mountain... It's gross...
