Really Cheapskate Tip

Okay we all really have a really cheapskate side to us even though our favorite resort is WDW (a resort that can separate you from your cash faster than anywhere but maybe a casino).

So.

What is your favorite, really, really (almost embarassing to mention) cheapskate tip for saving money in the world?

Ok, I'll start with a mild one (saving my best).

A guy I met taught me this one at the POR pool.

Buy Heinekens in the gift shop for less than half the price of beer at the pool bar.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Bring your own breakfast and eat it in the room before you head out for the day. Works great being DVC members, cereal and milk, but even before we were DVCers we would bring Nutri-grain bars, pop tarts, cheerio bars, etc. Saves tons of time in the morning and about $25/day!!!!!!!

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

It's easy for us since we drive, but we always bring a flat of water and gatorade from Sam's and bring one for each of us into the parks each day. Also, nice to have these in the room at night instead of having to go back down to the food court.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Oh, another one (boy am I cheap!!) I love the meal vouchers at Animal Kingdom. The one where you pay $11 and get lunch with a drink and then a snack and drink later on that day. I wish all the parks did that!!!

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Cheapskate is such a harsh word. Why not call it money saving tips? I hope this doesn't turn into how many ways you can cheat WDW. I save for a long time to go to WDW so I don't usually worry about cutting corners, but for this trip in October, I have to be a little more conservative with my spending because it's my second trip in one year. To do that I am staying at a moderate instead of a deluxe. I am not taking a towncar at home and opting to drive myself to the airport and parking at a garage. I am considering using the free Magical Express, but havent' decided yet. I may bring some snacks for the room to avoid that cost and am not going to do as many sit-down meals, but I really hate getting into the serious cutting. It doesn't feel like vacation if I have to worry about every cent....it's more stressfull and less entertaining to me. I will just forgo day trips again this summer and avoid my spur of the moment shopping binges in order to save for this trip. If I have to start worrying about buying a beer at the bar, then it's time to stop going on vacation for me. That's just not fun to me....my opinion only. To each their own. I am not judging anyone.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

We try to make the cheapest trips some times. We have 1 refillable mug for port orleans riverside and all 3 share it. we've taken bread and toasted it in the food court toasters. we bring our own food for breakfast and get all the extras, spoons, napkins, splenda packets etc. at the food court. in the parks.we take sport bottles and ger ice from drink vendors, add water from the water fountain and mix in wa-mart brand crystal light in the little tubes. doing little things like that allow us to eat atleast 1 nice sitdown lunch a day in the parks. we take lance crackers and gummi bears in the parks with us. I bring souviners with us for my daughter. but this year she's been earning her own $$$ for shopping this trip.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

Buy milk in the gift shop instead of the food court and take it in with you. You get half gallon for the price of two small cartons...my kids are milk drinkers and would drink two cartons a piece at each meal! This is a real saver for us.

Re: Really Cheapskate Tip

My husband is the type that when we are on vacation - he does NOT want to worry - about anything. That's what he is taking the vacation from...so we don't normally 'cut corners' - such as breakfast in room, or bringing snacks...it's a hassle to him, and he'd rather splurge once a year and buy what he wants/we want...

this year will be a bit different. We're staying for longer - a whole week. That's a big deal for us for WDW. We always stay 7 days at the beach...but not at WDW. We have to save enough money for us to do that. He won't put a vaca. on the CC.
So - we are staying at a value. We are also bringing the kids breakfasts, because we usually spend alot of money on food they are too excited to eat. Neither one of us are breakfast eaters, so we will probably grab something in the parks, etc...

I'll have to bring snacks for baby. No biggie.
We have access to the outlet Disney store for all the parks in St. Augustine, so sovieners come in a different form for us - stuff we can't just get anywhere...we don't really cut corners there, either...but we do limit the kids on what they can buy. It has to all fit into the budget we've saved...or else we don't do it!
