How cheap am I? Taking the subway!!
Well, the MBTA here in Boston just expanded the new Silver Line to include service to Logan Airport. (http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/sche...silverline.asp)
The Silver Line stops about a 10 minute walk from the house and we're taking carry-on luggage only. So, unless it rains, we'll be starting our vacation in quite typical fashion for my family... on foot.. and then on the subway. Cab fare to the airport (with tip): $28 subway fare: $3.15!!! Man, I'm cheap. ![]()

I hope the Boston subway isn't as scary as the NYC subway, otherwise, it's worth the extra money just to arrive at your destination.

Re: How cheap am I? Taking the subway!!
That's great! If it rains, can you take a taxi to the station for a few bucks? Or sweet talk a neighbor?
BART-Bay Area Rapid Transit--our commuter train system, recently extended service to SFO and it would be about $6 fare, per person (5 of us). It would cost $80 for a shuttle and even more for a car or taxi. We can BART to Oakland airport too, and that's about $5 each. Takes a bit more time, but no hassle of driving, traffic and parking. We're about a 20 minute walk, door to platform, with 3 kids. |

Re: How cheap am I? Taking the subway!!
Turns out it's even better.
I forgot that they brought back the transfers, soooo... We can catch a bus which is literally around the corner and transfer to the Silver Line. All that for $3.15 for ALL 4 of us!! I LOVE Boston!!

Re: How cheap am I? Taking the subway!!
That's not cheap. It's smart. Less money on taxi means more money for WDW. Instead of taking transportation or parking at the airport, I am leaving my car at my DBf's in philly and having him drop me off...free is me..lol

I argree with Dana, with all the nonsense with the big dig, the silver line looks like a good thing! Go for it! Our youngest boy is taking the red line in to Boston today for the Sox game, no worries. :mellow

Re: How cheap am I? Taking the subway!!
Matt, welcome to my world! We always take the subway to JFK on our trips to WDW (and every other trip for that matter) because we only travel with carry-on luggage. Our trip ends up being $7 instead of $55!

Giuliana did a great job cleaning them up. Matt, I would love to have that here in Cincinnati. I would do it in a heart beat. You are my hero.
