How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

My husband and I are planning a trip to WDW in Spring/Summer of 2006. The only way we can do it is to start saving for it now. How far ahead of time does everyone else start to plan and budget for their WDW trips? Please tell me I'm not the only one who jumps the gun ;)

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

I start saving as soon as I get home form WDW! I put any left over money in as my start up and go from there. I have saved so much money in the last year, I did better than I thought I would. We usually have to use my DH summer money (he teaches for a local college in the summer) for our vacation but this year I almost have our whole trip covered.

I think saving for a year is a good idea, no credit cards that way.

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

We are going in November of 2006 and I have already started to squirrel money away. I have a 3 pound coffee can - in there goes all the money that I find doing the laundry (propably mine to begin with) and all the tips that I get. It adds up to quite a bit and usually pays for food (which was nearly $2000. last time we went) and goodies.

It's never too early to start saving for such important things as a Disney Vacation!

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

We start saving at least a year before the trip, sometimes even two years out.
We are set for our trip next May, but will continute to save for 2007. We always try and have enough saved for 2 vacations.

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

I'm just continually saving for vacations. I am a very tight penny-pincher for the most part, but I will splurge on two things in my life: vacations and education. So I constantly have savings accounts for vacations, to pay off my masters degree, and to eventually get me through my PhD.

We never stop putting aside money for Disney trips. Even if we have enough saved up for the next trip, we will start saving for trip after.

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

Since we take long trips every 2 years, I save for about ayear and a half for our trips. This way, the entire trip is paid for before we go and we can do pretty much anything we want while we are there. In fact, I usually bring more money than we need, so we put the leftovers in our Disney savings when we get home and start saving again.

I'm always saving. I try to put away $20.00 a week, for sure, and any extra that comes my way goes into the Disney fund.

BTW, welcome to DC - you're in good company here!

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

We start by having a child and then selling it on the black market along with a non-vital body organ per traveler. From there we then move to a new locale and become drug kingpins only to vanish when we have squandered enough money.

Actually its not different here as for everyone else. We use the Disney Visa which saves us some while we spend - I also have a 5-gallon water bottle that gets 1/2 of all gift money and change. Between Disney Visa and the Change Jug I think we may be REALLY close to having our package paid for. 5Nights in Mod with Hopper and Dining PLan.

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

We are going in January and we started saving in April. It's the only way we could afford to go. I waittress and I put at least $10.00 a night and all the change. Sometimes I put more. Dh puts in some from every paycheck. I also sell stuff on ebay and put the money in the jug also.

Re: How far ahead of time do you start to budget for your WDW trip?

I start the day I plan to go. That is usually about 8 months to a year before the actual trip. You are best off starting your savings now. It won't be as hard on the pocket book if you do a little each week. Before you know it, you will have a paid in full trip and the spending money in advance.
