Are ther plans to remodel the PoC ride to reflect the movie? I heard they are re-doing the ride in Ca. WDW could stand to be polished up a bit. Yo Ho.

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

If they're going to do this, they need to do it either before or after we're there in May/June. :c)

Actually, I've heard basically the same thing. Personally, or, in my opinion, I don't think they'd make it reflect the movie, as the movie was based on the ride. What I would expect is for them to just freshen it up a bit--sound system, paint jobs, etc. I wouldn't expect them to actually change anything major, as that might have a negative effect. Really tick people off.

There's only a few rides at WDW and DL that you can't mess with without upsetting a lot of people. PotC, HM, maybe JC, a few others in Fantasyland. They've always been the way they are. If you go changing them, it upsets people. BIG TIME. Not that that would be a bad thing, it's just that, for a lot of adults, they love Disney parks because the parks don't really change. People go to these parks to be kids again.

True, new things open, etc. Rehabs occur. But to drastically change something that is a cornerstone of people's childhood would do more harm than good.

Now, there are exceptions to this, of course. Take Space Mountain, for example. It's completely different in DL with the new rehab. Most people love it, because it is new and different. What's the difference between SM and, say, PotC? Because SM has always been meant to be a thrill ride. Updating it makes it more thrilling. PotC tells a story. To change it would borders on heresy. PotC tells a specific story that never needs to change. The fact that some of the dialogue has changed in it over the years still gets LOTS of people's dander up. To do something more drastic would be sacreligious (sp?), and might end up causing a revolt and, possibly, a lynching.

Hey jedijson, I'm with you on the refurbishment. I would like to see it spruced up - throw in some Jonny Depp stuff, but you have to keep the foundation. "We want the redhead" can't be replaced. Nor the dog with the keys. MAybe we'll cross swords as our vacation is in June also. Yo ho - "It's CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow......"

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

I heard they were going to update Haunted from a CM years ago. Looks exactly the same to me though.

Small World was just redone - sure is brighter now. Still the same stuff just fresh paint. Wife loves it for some unknown reason, and there wasn't a line, and you do get to sit down for a few minutes....but I still hate it.

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

The rumors are still circulating that an audioanimatronic Captain Jack Sparrow will make appearances in POTC at both WDW and DL.

I hope (and assume) they won't change much anything about the attractions. But I wouldn't mind seeing Jack a little bit.

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

I have just heard of the "Jack" animatronic that they are going to insert around the time of the next movie...he is rumored to be located at the very end...near the jail scene I think.

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

My Friend who was previously an intern for imagineering told me that Jack was going to be placed strategically in various points in the ride. As far as it being an animatronic I don't know, he hinted it would be very subtle in the back grounds and you would have to look to find him. So I'm guessing maybe a wax figure or manequin.

Re: Pirates Redone in FLa?

I wanted to update this to see if any recent WDW visitors found/saw Jack Sparrow in the PoC?

Not yet.

As far as the Haunted Mansion update. The DL version has some cool new enhancements that hopefully will make it to FL before too long. Levitating Madame Leota Ball for instance.

Also, I have heard the same on Jack being at the end of the ride and a new audio system installed. The boats get backlogged at the exit and you usually sit for a bit until the animatronics start repeating themselves. The idea is to make the final scene much longer and more interesting since the audience will be in the same room longer. Makes sense.
