To AP or not to AP?

Ok, so we were debting between going in Jan or the first week in December for our next trip. I think we are going to do Dec. So we are trying to find the cheapest way possible. We were thinking of staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We are wondering if it is worth getting an Annual Pass for the discounts. But I can't see to find what the discounts would be.

Anyone know? There will be 4 adults and a 2year old, i think. There is a chance that there will be even more but I'm not sure at this point. Also we need at least one of the rooms to be accessible. Anyone know if you can get the AP discounts on those rooms?

We don't live in FL, so we don't want to buy the pass if we aren't going to get a big enough discount. HELP!

Re: To AP or not to AP?

How long are you staying? All 5 of you in one room? Just so you know, Disney will add $25 per per night per adult for each adult over 2 in a room, so your price is going to be $50 higher than the standard price. Let me know the answer to those questions, I can get a price for you.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

Oops! Sorry!! Should have put a little more info. No we won't all be in 1 room. It will be hubby our daughter and myself in 1 room. We are planning on a week there. Then my parents are going to be coming. But not sure if they are going to do the whole week or just 4 nights.

Thank you!!

Re: To AP or not to AP?

From looking at it quickly, it looks like only water/pool view rooms and savannah view rooms are available for the first two weeks. These prices are with the best rate program, and must be booked 60 days in advance. Disney will require a one night deposit that is non-refundable for each room. You will need at least one AP in order to book the rooms. You can book up to 3 rooms with one AP, but only one at a time.

Animal Kingdom Lodge, water/pool view room: $172.84 ($250.88)
Animal Kingdom Lodge, savannah view room: $234.16 ($312.20)

These are the nightly rates with the room tax included. The second set of numbers are the standard price with tax. Looks like the discount is roughly $75 per night or so.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

Thank you!!! Thank you!!! $75/night isn't bad for a discount.

Although I have to confess I was hoping that it would be more. Isn't that a Value week?

Re: To AP or not to AP?

Yes, it is value season, and for the last year or so, $75 has been the Ap discount on deluxe resorts. Remember, this is the best rate program, so if something better comes along, Disney will lower the price for you.

Looks like over the 11 nights, you would be saving $858.44 off of the standard prices. Not too bad. I would suggest you hold off a bit. These rates have to be booked 60 days in advance, so sometime in October. We might see some package discount that will be better for you before then. If something does come out, then you can make up your mind which one you would rather have.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

ok...change of plans. The family doesn't want to do AKL for when they are there with us. So here is the current plan:

traveling from December 2nd - 10th
First 4 nights in POFQ.
Then last 4 nights in AKL

So I am still wondering if it is worth getting an AP or not?

Thanks!

Re: To AP or not to AP?

We were not able to get the AP best rate discount for almost the same exact dates at POFQ, but were able to for POR @ $99 a night.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

If you are going to book the room only with an AP rate, you should get on it soon. You have to have it booked 60 days in advance with the best rate program and that right now is the only way APers are getting a discount. I would buy the vouchers and do it immediately.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

Right now we are thinking just once. (But if I have the pass and I can convince DH maybe more. But I am not going to push my luck at this point.)

So that is why we re trying to figure out if we get a big enough discount to make it worth it. We also happen to be AAA members so I think we get a discount that way.

Yes, I know what your are thinking. I let my husband believe we were only going once too, but, then I slowly worked him over. 3 trips on the same AP. But, if you are just thinking about going once, you might do what Mickey said, and wait. Sometimes the packages work out really well.

True. But with family coming with us they are pressuring us to make reservations. So that is why I want to get it a little more sorted out.

Re: To AP or not to AP?

I will check on the dates for you and see what is available through the BRP. But it is getting close with the 60 mark you only have about 2 weeks I think.
