WDW Lodging
While reading the recent post from DisneyDad, it sparked a money-saving tip that I intended to share with you and, due to procrastination I guess, I had not done so. 'til now . . .
I know how much many people enjoy staying on-site. Let's face it: although it enhances the magical experience, it can really be a budget-buster (especially for families of five since they often need to reserve two rooms.) This year I discovered an economical way to enjoy on-site, luxurious lodging. I rented points from a Disney Vacation Club owner. I stayed at Old Key West in a one bedroom unit for five days. It was awesome! There was plenty of space: full kitchen and dining area, super-duper bathroom/spa, washer/dryer, private porch overlooking golf course . . . it was truly magical. All this on-site luxury cost me less than $500 and I visited WDW during Dream Season (mid-priced time. It identifies the number of points needed to stay in a unit at a particular time.) The bottom line is that I heartily recomment that you check out the renting points option when you are planning your vacation. There are a number of places (including in the DVD area here on Disney Central) where you can learn more about this. I think that the primary resource is here Scroll to Disney Vacation Club and click on DVC Rent/ Trade Board. I would do this again in a heartbeat! The greatest danger is that you may yearn to buy into the Disney Vacation Club yourself. But, that's another story . . . :D |

Lopo, great suggestion, plus it is beneficial for both parties, since the owner of the points will lose them if they don't get used.
One word of warning, make sure you protect yourself from fraud during the transaction. I would suggest making an agreement that the money be put in an escrow fund until you arrive at your destination and everything is fine. You could then call the escrow company and release the funds. That way you are both protected. You would hate to arrive at WDW and find out that there really isn't a room for you, but at least you will still have your money. Also, the price you pay for the points is completely negotiable. History suggests that between $9 and $11 is pretty fair.
