So, how do you save for Disney?
Just curious.
Also wondering if anyone pays their credit card negative just before the BIG trip. Thanks

We have never been able to do that before but we will this year. In the past we just went and didn't think much about it before, we just tried not to charge too much, but you know how that goes. We have been saving for 5 years (since my DS was born) to have a blow out trip all paid for before we ever leave home. I don't think I will pay the credit card until we get home though, we just won't have a balance before we leave then pay it off the next statement. We have an account that is JUST disney money, my DH teaches for 2 different colleges on the side and we put both of those checks in the Disney account.

I put extra change in my "change jar" I either use it when I go to disney or for christmas and each week if we have money left over at the end of the week I exchange it for Disney Dollars so I am not tempted to use that money

We save the change, too, & then put it in our savings account that I've actually called "DisneyWorld." A good chunk of my paycheck also goes into that account...we always say I'm just working for WDW! Also, my DD has people give her Disney Dollars for birthdays & such so she has spending money that doesn't have to come out of her regular money.

The Change jar really works! My family used a 18 oz. oatmeal jar, with a printed out label wrapped around it saying "Our Disney Vacation". In about 5 monthes we aleady had 150 dollars saved up! Thats enough to pay for 1 night at a deluxe resort, or 2 at the all stars! It would help to turn it in for Disney Dollars to reduce the temptation. Needless to say, i think the jar method only works for disney vacations planned out far in advance! lol
Joe:) oh yea we didnt put any penny's in it either, thats a whole other jar! lol

We make our reservations about 7 months in advance then pay for a night in the room each month and put 250 away each month for our plane tickets, and annual passes tickets and meals. We end up enough money to enjoy ourselves. We are lucky that we have our house and car paid off so we have the extra money. This allows us to go down to WDW twice in a 12 month period with no problem.

So, how do you save for Disney?
I always check my credit card balances about a week before our trip. I then send payment in full for each so that I start our vacation with zero balances.

I never thought about taking the x-tra money that we were saving for the trip and turing it into Disney dollars... That makes so much sense... We have a Disney savings account that we started right after x-mas and I was starting to worry that I might wind up taking some of the money out... Guess where Im off to........... Bank and Disney Store here I come :laugh
Oh and the coin jar idea REALLY works... We planned our Disney wedding for about 8 months and all the x-tra change that we had we put in one of those water cooler jugs(and promised each other that we WOULDN'T touch it) ..Well in the end (8 months later) we had just shy of 650.00.. I was amazed..... When we left the bank I told my DH that was found money and we could use it on whatever we wanted to by while we were in DW. :) Oh well Heigh Ho Heigh Ho its off to the Bank I go... :weird: ![]()

I start about a year ahead of time. I take x number of dollars from each paycheck, delete it from my checking account, and keep a separate piece of paper in my checkbook marked "Disney," with the amount I've saved on it. When I think I have enough, then I start taking that amount in cash and put it aside for spending money. Therefore, the whole trip is paid for before I go.:heart :)
P.S. I do that for every vacation, not just WDW.

My Husband is a baseball umpire, so all that $$ goes to the Disney fund for special things like annual passes.
We go every couple months, and just try to schedule on a payday weekend. No credit cards for me. Every once in a while, the bills will have to wait so we can get our Disney fix ![]()

Hi
We start planning a couple years in advance. We make a list of where we are going to stay, what passes, transportation and spending for the trip. This gives us a ball park figure to shoot for and save monthly. We usally add a few more dollars for inflation. Doing it this way, we don't use our credit cards down there. Of course We have to reserve using a card, but that is paid off with 1 or 2 of the monthly payments. This keeps our card free and we come home credit card debt free. Only downfall for us, is that we can't go often enough. It takes a while to pay for a 2 week vacation to WDW. Janelle
