ooh - you are a bad girl!! i'm tellin!!! my grandma snuck (sneeked, whatever) alcohol on our cruise (of course it was 13 years ago)!! I laughed so hard - imagining grandma if she got caught!!! but, with all the flight regulations, can you even take bottles like that on, even if they are checked? I haven't flown in years, so I am truely clueless. I'd do the math before deciding on what to do. how much beer you buying? if its gonna be less than the price of the town car, why not just spend the little extra and do the gift shop beer or the taxi. I mean, $60 doesn't sound awful, but you still need to add the beer price to that. $20 taxi seems better. or if its not a lot of beer you are buying, would the POP beer be cheaper, with not having to add on the driving expense?

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
This is a great thread I am having the same problem I think I will take a cab ride from DD and go to the grocery store right down the street. Put the beer in bags (brown paper bags) and carry it back on the bus to the hotel.

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
This is an awesome thread, it's great to know there are Mousebuzz experts in all fields... so your help would be appreciated. Several times we've bought a case looking forward to a cold one at the end of the day, only to fall asleep (unconscious might be a better word) before I get it finished... Mousekeeping ends up with an extra tip at the end of the week.
Maybe a coffee on the bus to keep me awake long enough to enjoy it?

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
we have friends that are living in Orlando- I think from now on we will have them just make a Packy run for us and then have them hang with us at the resort for a few.... that would be fun and economical!

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
We stayed at Pop last February and my husband and cousins could not go without the beer.
So, we took Quicksilver one way -- stopped at the store and bought the beer, then used ME on the way back. Worked great. You can buy beer in the food court at POP and it is more expensive than a grocery store but less expensive than the bar. We also mixed drinks, you can buy a bottle of rum at the food court -- and the bartender sold us some mixer! She was great! You can't bring beer in a carryon any more, no liquids!!!! And, the grocery delivery won't deliver alcohol AND you can't shipped your beer via UPS or Fed Ex to get there (we tried everything!!)

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
Years ago, we had left over beer from our vacation (can you imagine??) So, my dh decided to pack it. . .well it didn't make it very long. glass bottles (we weren't that bright, apparently). One of the bottles broke and it was a mess.
We did take a cab ride. It cost around $40 for us from POP to the grocery store. There was 9 of us traveling, so splitting the cost to get beer was worth it.

Re: Best way to save on Beer for the room.
dturano547, seeing as how you made mention that you brew beer I was under the impression that you may be a beer snob until I read that comment about Corona!
Seriously though, the best way to save on beer is buying it off of property. The lack of a rental car makes things pretty rough. If there is any way you can get transportation to one of the Hess Stations on property (one near MK, one in DTD and one across from Boardwalk) you can buy the mass market American stuff at standard convenient store pricing, which is definitely a saving over resort pricing. Honestly, that is your best bet. However, if you are a beer snob like me that won't touch the standard A-B, Miller and stuff like that. There is a Publix a few miles outside the back enterance to AK. But, that will eat your savings in cab fare. Last, FedEX will let you send beer. At least I have done it through them a few years ago. When Sam Adams first released their Chocolate Bock in the 750 mL bottles, I bought a bunch and eBayed about half of what I purchased. They had no problem shipping them for me. You just can't ship through the Post Office and can't deliver beer, wine or liquor to a P.O. Box. Those are the only stipulations. Judging by your signature, I gather you live in NY. I know for a fact New York is a state that beer, wine and liquor can be shipped to. I also know for a fact that Florida is a state that will allow beer, wine and liquor to be shipped to as well. As long as your FedEX or UPS will allow you to send it, you can receive it in Florida. I hope that helps. And here's to Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA! ![]()
