Re: Good snacks for packing??

I would bring at least one water bottle to the parks. We actually did water bottles with attached straps. I agree that carrying more than one for each around is a pain. My kids all carried their own drinks. I would assume there is ice to cool the water at your hotel.
If you aren't big breakfast eaters than you can always pack the small cereal boxes or breakfast bars to have before you head to the parks. You could also purchase parmalot milk that doesn't need to be refridgerated. You can just put it on ice the night before you need it.

Especially in the summer months. It's a bad thing to have a pocket full of melted ice cream!

Re: Good snacks for packing??

If you are driving, why pack any snacks. Any cast member will tell you how

to get to a store off grounds, and you can get your stuff there.

And just because it's near Disney doesn't mean price goes up, there

are lots of stores so they have to compete.

It's quicker and easier for us to pick a few things up before we leave so we don't waste a second of park time getting stuff we can get at home.

Re: Good snacks for packing??

I'd rather shop and have stuffed packed before we arrive, that we don't use precious Disney time at Walmart or Publix.

One tip I discovered when I was doing the college program was that at counter service restaurants if I asked for ice-water in a cup it was free. I even asked for an extra large, and got it with no problems. Usually I bring a bottle of water into the parks with me, and I was filling it up in the drinking fountains, but the water tasted gross, even with crystal light mixed in. After I discovered that they would give me free ice water, that is what I ordered. Tasted much better than the drinking fountains, and better than paying 2-3 dollars a bottle.

Re: Good snacks for packing??

THINK HEALTHY!
I would pack something higher in protein and lower in sugar (with small amounts of good fats). As we know the protein will sustain the hunger a little longer. If your kids only like sugary snacks try to get them out of that habit ASAP! I’m not trying to preach here but I was an overweight child that now knows now what to do (but it still is hard and bad habits die hard). This is one place you should not skimp… your Childs heart and health may thank you in years to come.

Stuff that comes to mind:
Nuts (un/low salted)
A few dried fruits (raisons, prunes, cranberries, etc)
A good trail mixes
Granola bars
Soy Chips
Sun Chips
If they MUST have chips, etc look for a good brand made with canola oil
How about a 100% whole-wheat cereal (such a cheerios)?
100% whole-wheat pretzels (oat, etc)
Also consider…
Hard-boiled egg (with omega3)?
Low salt (good) lunchmeat (turkey, etc)
With a whole-wheat crackers

Ice cream and such is good in moderation.

There are plenty of places offsite: Walmart, Target, etc. That said, there are a few locations immediately offsite where you might get soaked if you shop there.

I mentioned this thread to Mrs. Elmo. Her first reply was to avoid overpacking snacks as they seldom all get eaten. (Something that was mentioned previously, I know - just another vote for that line of thinking.)

Re: Good snacks for packing??

I found this last trip that my kids didn't snack as much -- too much to do, I think. We did like to have a snack back in the room later in the night.

Granola bars, yogurt bars, ritz crackers with spray cheese for the room, fruit snacks. . .my kids also like cereal in a baggie, cheez its.

If you have a fridge -- walmart has $.97 lunchables that come with crackers, meat and cheese and a couple of cookies, these are great!

Re: Good snacks for packing??

These aren't healthy options but they're a tradition for my family to take to WDW and I'm carrying the tradition over to my husband and I. We always take Pringles as well as spray cheese with crackers. Those are my fave things to eat when I get the late night munchies in the room. :)
