Contemporary or other resort

I have a question for you experienced Disney people. I am currenlty booked to stay at the Contemporary Resort for a little over $100 per night. With the military special we can stay at any of the resorts for 40% off. For example the All STar resorts would be under $50 per night. Is it worth it to stay where I am at or look at another resort. (A little info- our kids are 5 and 3) Please help.

Is this through Shades of Green? Judging by your user name I am going to assume it is.

We stayed at the Contemporary North Garden Wing through SOG last October and liked it. The rooms are really big and you have access to the Monorail both are big pluses with little ones. Chef Mickey's was awesome too!!

The drawbacks were lack of room theming (not very disney-like) and we did not care for the food court.

I am not sure about this so I would check first but through SOG I think Animal Kingdom Lodge was about $125/night. We really want to stay there but the other people in our party don't want to.

If you are not staying through SOG, then please disregard every other part of this post except the review. Thanks.

Thank you for your replies. Yes we are staying at the Contemporary Resort through the SOG. My name kinda gives it away. I did not know about the Animal Kingdom opportunity. I might have to look into it. I thought I was restricted to the Comtemporary. Not that it is bad and as for the decor we really dont care much. If you stayed there through the SOG is there a place to buy souveniers and stuff like if you were actually staying the the SOG resort?

They have their main office in one of the Garden wing rooms and yes you can buy SOG souveniers there.

Just checked with the wife about the AKL price and she thinks it was more like $140/night. Still a pretty good deal.

The Contemporary might have to be booked first before they offer you the other deals, but it fills up pretty quick. I know it is booked for our December trip. I would call them to make sure. But like I said, the Contemporary is nice, we would stay there again.

I called the SOg and they are booked solid but the attendent said that we did have the best deal available. I requested that they give us a bay room. Hopefully that was the right decision. What do you think? I thought it would be better the a parking lot. Let me know.

The Bay view is really nice. They had a water parade every night we were there that you could watch from the window.

FYI - The first floor rooms have a patio area with chairs while the second and third floors do not.

Which floor do you recommend. The ground or the others. I am not too picky and I am thankful that they let me request a bay room. Either way I will be happy knowing that if Disney had not run all these special I would never be able to afford to go.

Well, if you are on the first floor, your kids can walk right out the door and out to the play area. Otherwise you have to walk to the elevator and go out the front door so that might be nice.

Of course on the 3rd floor you don't have to worry about loud upstairs neighbors. :hmmm

If I were staying there again, I would probably choose the 3rd floor, but that's just my opinion.

I think I have decided to let the chips fall where they may and stay at the Contemporary Resort. I requested a bay room and if I get it I will be happy. I figure it this way-We will be in the room for naps and sleep-that is about it. Thank you for all your help.

I have been doing a lot of research into resorts and I think there is something special and wonderful about each of them. I think you will have a memorable experience at any DW resort. I just hope I get to sample them all.

The great thing about the Contemporary is that it is the first stop from the MK. We liked it when we were there. You will have a great time there.
