Icon5 Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

I've seen a number of posts on tipping, but all are at least two years old. Can anyone provide a little up to date info on tipping? Who do we tip? And how much? Is it 15%, 18%, or 20% for good wait staff service? Is it still $1 per person/per room for tipping the maids. Oh, - and thanks for the great link to the Mousekeeping Envelopes. They are so adorable and add a little bit of Disney Magic from us to the staff! Looking forward to all the info I can get. I don't want to cheat anyone who makes are trip memorable - no Scrooge here - but I don't want to be a crazy person either. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

Welcome to MouseBuzz!

My DH takes a wad of 5 dollar bills and uses those to tip on our way to and from. We tip anyone who touches our luggage $5. That starts with the park and fly bus driver who loads and unloads our bags from the bus, the sky caps who check our bags, the Magical Express driver who handles our carry on bags, and the bell staff that gets our bags to our room. We usually check 2 large bags and have one rolling carry on if that helps.

We tip 18-20% at restaurants depending on service. I leave between 3 and 5 dollars for mousekeeping for the 3 of us. Part of that depends on what type of bills we have on hand and how good they were. We make our own beds and leave a clean room for them, if I had a super messy room I might leave more.

Re: Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

We will tip up to 25% for great service in restaurants, 20% for standard and as low as 15%for below par service (this does not happen very often). We will tip housekeeping 3 - 5 dollars a day (depending on how messy the room is). As Disneyteacher also said, will tip 3 - 4 dollars per bag for who ever handles them.

Oh, and welcome to MouseBuzz, I am sure you will love it here! Lots of great information and people!

We tip about 18-20% for meals. We tip everyone who helps us with luggage. We also tip the ME drivers, and airport shuttle drivers.

Re: Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

We tip $1 per bag, to the luggage handlers, sky cap, shuttle drivers, and bell services.

Dining, between 20 and 25 percent, depending on the service.

Mousekeeping, usually $5. (There are 4 of us.)

And a reminder. Tip your mousekeeper everyday. They may take care of you for most of your stay, but could have the day off the day you leave and may never see the tip they have coming.

Re: Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

As the mother of a server at Le Cellier, please know how much your tips are appreciated by them. These kids earn $3.85 an hour! And they work HARD - Emily's working 16 hour days. They depend on those tips to live - literally. Many of them exist on ramen noodles and cold cereal. So, if you're pleased with your service - or even if you aren't overwhelmed, but don't have any complaints - please leave an appropriate tip.

Can you repost the link for the Mousekeeping envelopes?

As for tipping, as we will be a party of 6, 3 adults, 3 kids, we will have all tips added to our TS meals; and although I am still irritated to be taken out of the equation, I guess it's one less thing i ahve to worry about!

Re: Age old question on Tipping - Who and How Much?

We give a few dollars day to mousekeeping and 18-20% when we are dining. The only time our tips are lower is when we get bad service.

Wow, reading this made me wanna say ... I failed to mention in my Trip Report that we ate at Le Cellier for lunch ... and we had a newbie being trained as our waiter ... and he dropped a steak knife on me! He was sooo nervous! I made extra sure to let him know I was OK (I didn't get hurt, thankfully), and we left a 20% tip. The food was great & our 2 servers did a wonderful job, minus the steak knife incident.

That is a GREAT idea for how much to tip at buffets!

Sorry for the delay in getting this out there. This is the site I used, although there are others if you Google "Mousekeeping Envelopes". These were easy to use:
