The "Disney Fund"

This is kind of random...I'm sure you all probably do something like this anyway, but...

My family likes to create a "Disney Fund" after every trip, where we place any extra money we brought home from our trip or any pocket change, etc. Throughout the time until our next trip, everyone occasionally drops spare change in the box and then all of the money is used for something fun in DL/WDW. Last time we saved $75 in change and got to eat dinner at Goofy's Kitchen! :D

Just a thot.

LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do this! I have a jar for change which I drop all my change in at teh end of every day. Also I quit smoking 5 years ago. Every pay check I take the amount of money I woul dhave spent on cigarettes for the pay period ($5.00 a day X 14 days) and put aside, this also goes into my vacation (OK, OK the jat I put in is actually labled "The Disney Fund"). I also have friends at work who have seperate savings account just for their Disney trips!):) :laugh :) :D

We have a Disney fund as well. I put all that babysitting money in the fund. The crazy ice cream man comes everyday at 5:00 pm, so I bought a box of fun pops at Walmart and tell the kids we will put the money we woud have spent on ice cream from him in the fund. And he is expensive!

That is great you quit smoking Matto! Congrats!

We too have a can thant we keep our loose change. Last year we accumulated $85.00. We used this money for our diner at O'hana.

It's really fun when you start counting it. It's amazing how much a few quarters nickels and pennies per day adds up.

We are not going for a long time (2006) but we have already started saving. We each put money from our paychecks into a special "Disney" savings account. We have also decided that any gifts we get in the form of money that we receive between now and then also goes into this account along with any extra bonus paychecks. We are using the Disney Visa to earn reward dollars and we put everything we can on the card and pay it off each month. Most of our bills can now be paid with credit cards so we save checks also. I am also saving Disney Dollars. And finally we also do the change jar. I also have one going at work. There are some people at work that hate pennies so they bought me a piggy bank to keep at my desk and several of them put there extra pennies in there from lunch! Hey, I will take it anyway I can get it. Every penny counts!

We added a secondary "Disney Account" to our primary checking account. The $$$ DH earns as a baseball umpire, or on side jobs goes here. Also, what we like to call "found money" $$ left in pockets on laundry day, loose change, lottery winnings etc.

It does add up, and has almost paid for our Sept trip.

Matto,
I laughed when I read your post about using what would have been your cigarette money for your Disney fund. When I was 10 my mom quit smoking and my dad put aside the amount of money she would have spent on cigarettes in a vacation fund. That money paid for our whole trip to WDW two years later - it was a great reward for my mom and a bonus for everyone else! Congratulations on quitting!

I too have a change jar actually two change jars one for silver and one for our pennies I have about 80 dollars in silver so far ( for our October trip ) I didnt use it in July because I wanted more change in it I also give our selves an "allowance " of twenty dollars each a week what ever I have left over I change into disney dollars for the trip I also try and get 10 dollars a week in disney dollars or more if we have the extra money. Next year we plan to take our neice for a couple of days so I have started an evelope for her spending money and put a couple of disney dollars in that each week ( we are going to suprise her with it ) when we get there . We told her to start saving her allowance but this way she will have extra to spend on whatever she wants

We also collect our loose change. Got $200 last year before going. This year we throw dollar bills in at the end of the day and lets just say we have acculmulated enough to pay for our 8 day hooper passes!!!!
Boyfriend wouldnt let me charge anything so we have paid cash for this whole trip. Which is good so i dont have to bite my nails till i get the credit card after coming home from WDW.!

When McDonald's was selling those WDW glasses back in 2000, I got one of each--4 total, for the 4 different parks--and now I use them for pennies, nickels, dimes & quarters! It's fun to divide up my change into those glasses, which give me a good reminder what I'm saving for!

Possibly the best thing right now is that I work in a print/copy shop and so many people give me their pennies! Copies are 6 cents, and quite often people give me a dime and leave. If I collect those pennies from just ten people per day, that means I put away another $2.80 every week. It really adds up!!!! :D

We have one, too

We opened an account, kinda like a Christmas club. We also have our 6 yr old dd saving her allowance every week and any $$$ she gets goes in the jar in her room. In a month and a half she has saved almost $40 (she did graduate from kindergarten and got some $$ from that). That will be her spending money for our next trip.

Way to go mattomouseman,

It has been close to 10 years for me now and in that time I have used the "smokes money" to buy a new medium format camera system, restore an old Corvette, and pay for part of last years Disney trip.

This years trip is being paid for from part of the profits on selling that old Corvette!

Life is good!

We have a seperate account we try and put money aside in whenever possible. We also have the change jar and save Disney Dollars whenever we have the chance.
The other thing we do is use 1/2 of our X-mas club savings to purchase the plane tickets.

I save all my tips from the minute we return form WDW, I have a huge hundred years Mickey hat money box solely for that purpose and I put every tip I get from one holiday to the next, I dont know if your aware but us Brits are not renowned for tipping so I dont get tons of money at the end but I counted it last night as that was my last Saturday before leaving and I had amassed £328.00 which is just over $500.00, so I was very pleased, although how long that will last once we get to the 'World' I dont know :)
