Disney Dollars

Disney Dollars worked out great for our little one. She enjoyed using her own magic money to buy souveniors, and even bought mom and dad a soda, and snack one hot afternoon. We let her earn these from chores or good days with grand-ma. she really enjoyed saving up for our trip, and we got a kick out of it also.;)

thats great to hear.....we are doing the same thing for our 4 yr old dd ...this is our 1st trip to the world and we have been counting down since feb 2003...so we are all excited at this point..but the disney dollars are a great idea!she knows that is her "money"to buy whatever she wants with....until she runs out..then we hit up dh;)

We get my DS (5) Disney Dollars as a way for him to save spending money for trips. We gave him DD every week for cleaning his room and extra DD for his birthday and holidays. He had fun collecting them and it gave him spending money. It's also a good teaching opportunity.

I think giving the kids DD's is just such a great idea ... and not just for the kids!

Since I saw that tip on here last week - I have this plan to buy $100 in DD's every two weeks to use in the parks for myself and my husband. That will spread the cost over a few months and we won't be coming home to a huge visa bill afterwards.

One question though ... if I pay for the DD's with my Disney card ... will I get the disney dollars on the visa also?

I haven't gotten mine yet to prove it but YES that's what I understand. I just got my Disney Visa and started to use it this past month. I'm eager to see the reward points.

Disney Dollars are a great way to save for a trip! One year we bought our Seasonal Passes with Disney Dollars...all 10 of them!! That's a lot of Disney Dollars but the only way we wouldn't spend the money.

I also give them to my daughter as spending money while we're in Disney. She loves having her own money.

OK .. just one question about Disney Dollars ... if (and this is a BIG if knowing how we are in WDW) but IF we don't spend them all - can we turn them in for real dollars?

and if we can't - can we use them in Disney stores at the Mall?

I have exchanged them to real money at the Disney Store... According to the CM that changed mine... He said that they are real money and can be returned for real money that is the reason you can not get a discount when buying the Disney Dollars... So any DD not spent can be returned for us currencey....

Thanks for responding back JM0318. Last night I purchase more Disney Dollars and was told by the CM at the Disney Store that this couldn't be done. Usually we have very good service at our store but this particular CM was a real grouch! :laugh . Thanks for clarifying!

We were told at our Disney Store that we could return any unspent DD as long as we had a receipt for the DD. I kept all our receipts just in case but we didn't come home with any extra. If we had left over DD I am sure we would have just stuck them aside as savings for our next trip.
