AP Questions

Can those of you with AP's please explain to me how I can find if they are worth it for our trip?

I understand if I'm going to be there more than 8 days it is cheaper to get the AP than to get the hoppers for that amount of time.

BUT.... what about the resort discounts?? How do you find out about the resort discounts which COULD make it worth while to get 1 AP for a member of the family??

Also does it have to be an adult AP, could I make reservations under my DS's or DD's name and pay for it when I get there?

What are some of the other perks of an AP? I read about not having to wait in lines for shows and discounts at some restaurants and DTD.

I'm not sure it would be worth it for us but don't mind crunching some numbers to be sure.

This will be a 1 time trip, there's no way we'll be able to afford another trip like this. So I need to know about a 1 time use for discounts just by 1 of us out of 4 going to WDW.

Have any of you with APs gotten a notice of discounts for Sept? I called WDW today and she said unless I gave her codes she couldn't check on prices for me.

We're looking at ASMovies and AKL for maybe a night or 2. An 8 night stay total.

Thanks!!

Sorry - forgot to say that we are going to NASA 1 day and 2 days at Universal during our 9 days there so we are looking at 5 day park hopper plus so that 1 day will be a down day to go to the water parks.

Chris, try this link. Mary Waring (the founder of mousesavers.com) has a few pretty good calculations that you can do to figure out whether an annual pass will help you out. www.mousavers.com/annualpass.html

forgot to mention -- annual passholder room discount codes are coming out later and later, apparantly. So Sept. codes might not be out until the summertime. Until then, keep an eye on mousesavers.com for "general public" discount codes (she posts them as soon as she finds them -- which is often!), and think about booking a room at the AAA discount (if you're a member) which is often up to 15%. Then, if a better rate comes out later you can just switch your resort and/or discount. You're going at one of the slowest times of the year, so discounts might be easy to find. Good luck! :D

I also booked our room for May with our AAA card. Not much of a discount, but at least I have the dates I need. So, I sit and wait patiently for the AP rates to come out.. Then, I just call back and have them change the rates to the AP discounts, and I usually get them. Hopefully, they will be coming out real soon. Good Luck!!!:) JOANN

I am a AAA member, I got it for the discount on my train tickets then realized it would work for the ASMovies rooms too.

I'm waiting for our taxes to get finished before I book our rooms. The accountant said Friday.

Send some Pixie Dust my way for a BIG refund. :D

So I'll book using the AAA rates which is 20% off ASMovies for value season, then I'll just keep watching for the AP pass rates and run the figures when it gets closer.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that a friend of the family will share one of his 50% room employee discounts, but I can't hold my breath, they already had them promised, so unless someone backs out we won't get those.

Thanks!!

Please pass along any other tips!!:)

Oh what about getting the AP for one of my kids since it's so much cheaper? Can you book a room in a child's name and pay for it with a credit card or Disney Dollars when you get there?

It is way too soon to be looking for AP rates for September. We are still waiting to see if they come out for the 18th of APRIL! (keep your fingers crossed)
