Driving Ideas
I was thinking of leaving for our trip the Friday night before we check into our hotel. That way I'm not wasting a whole day driving down. We are driving down I-95 from Virginia. Is it better to leave like noon the day before, start driving after work or go home rest and start driving at 1 a.m.?
Thanks Jen :) :) :)

What'll it take you,12 or so hours to drive from Va to WDW? My recommendation would be to drive after work. That way you should get there around breakfast time on Saturday. That way you can do early check-in at your resort and head right for the parks if you want.

Hey Jenny! If you leave at noon, would you be stopping to spend the night somewhere along the way? If you don't want to spend the entire Sat in the car, that is probably what I would do. My concern about driving through the night is that you'll be exhausted before your vacation even begins. I know I would be (as well as the kids) even if DH and I switched off the driving.
BTW, I grew up in VA (Roanoke). How long of a drive is it for you?

If I leave at noon I think I'd drive till 11 pm or so then stop to get a room. I would'nt want to keep driving while I was tired. Plus I'd want to get some sleep to start fresh the next day to drive as well as do something when we finally get to WDW. According to Mapquest it's about 13 hours. If I leave at noon I'll hit traffic when people are getting off work but atleast I'll be on the road.
Thanks Jen :) :) :)

I don't know if you must come thru Metro Atlanta but if you do try to avoid rush hour. Which btw is from 3-7pm most days but especially bad on Fridays.

I wouldnt drive the whole time at once. It does make you very tired and if you are planning on going right to the parks it can be rough. I'd say drive a good distance and take a break to sleep, then pick up and drive the last couple hours. It seems like it would be easier! I could be wrong though...

Jenny, I've done that drive a couple of times, but usually stop in Santee, SC, which is closer to VA that Orlando. The trip says 13 hours overall, but once you hit Florida, you can get tied up in traffic through Jacksonville and especially through Orlando. You don't want to be coming into Disney through Orlando from I95 during the morning rush. :nervous You will miss Atlanta altogether.

Cool. I was thinking I'd drive till I got tired and then stop and get some sleep. I do better driving long distances than short ones. But I agree about getting a good nights rest and then be on my way. I just did'nt want to waste our whole first day driving. This is by far the best site to get helpful information!
Thanks again guys Jen :) :) :) :)

Jenny,
We are planning on driving down in Nov. 04 with our 2 girls who will be 4 1/2 & 3. So I've decided to break the trip up and stay overnight in Waltersboro SC, which is about 415 miles from Portsmouth. We will be leaving friday morning @ 9:00 am and get there about 5:00 this include a long stop for lunch and a short stop for gas. Then do the same thing on saturday(350 miles). With the money that I'm saving by not flying and renting a car we are able to stay a couple of extra nights @ ASM. But of course it also helps that I have three weeks vacation, 2 for Disney & 1 for NagsHead. I can get a good hotel just off I-95 for $70 bucks. Also checkout http://www.wdwinfo.com/transportatio...to_florida.htm which gives detailed info on the whole drive down including exits. If you need anything else let me know. :)

Thanks Jerry. My son is 6, not sure how often we'll stop other than for gas and food. Knowing my son he'll want to eat in the car and drive till we are there. This is the first long trip we've taken since he was 2. And that trip he slept just about the whole way to Mississippi. I'm thinking he's gonna be so excited this trip that he'll want to look out the window and talk and play most of the way. Not sure though he sleeps from the Lynnhaven exit to the Greenbrier exit here at home. And that's only a 30 min drive. Thanks for the link I'll go check it out.
Jen :) :) :)
