More intern questions from mom
My son will be bringing his computer WDWC college program. I understand the apartments at Vista have high speed internet. What exactly does that include--ie., does he have to have his own provider or is that part of the package. Here we have internet through our cable TV company. Also, I am assuming most students who bring computers bring or buy desks/chairs. Are there many items "for sale" from departing students? Thanks for the info.

Re: More intern questions from mom
Welcome to DC!
I haven't done the College program, but having recently moved into college dorms I can probably anwer the internet question. My dorm room came with a high speed internet jack, all I needed was an ethernet cord (not a regular telephone one) and I was set. Unless the WDWCP dorms are wireless, in which case his computer will need a wireless card in order to get online. If you have AOL or any other Internet provider he will be able to use that, they probably won't provide it for him. My family has AOL at home, and now that I'm in college I'm still able to log on to my AOL account to check mail and chat with friends. Hope this helps! Joe ![]()

Re: More intern questions from mom
Coloradosleepy,
I don't know anything about the high speed internet since no one in my apartment had a computer, we all used Vista Way's computer center. However, it is unlikely that you will run into any sales of stuff from departing students. Usually everyone is arriving and leaving around the same time so he won't see alot of the former interns on their way out. I don't remember anyone having any major furniture that they brought from home since the apts are furnished with all the basics. The only thing we bought from other students was a TV because they all had brought them and only really had space for one. Karen

Re: More intern questions from mom
My daughter is there now and has her own computer and the internet provider is included. Her roomated had a wireless router and put her pc accross the room from the hookup but my dd's laptop wouldn't work on wireless even though she has an ethernet card, so she plugs her's in at a desk that is provided as well as one of the other girls lap top. They are at Chatham. The same provider is at Vista Way but there is no desk provided. I have heard that there isn't much room for one either, but lots of kids put there pcs on their dresser or night stand.
Kids had already moved out of their apartments on different days than those arriving so you don't see much of kids trying to unload stuff. Though we did see a 'sign' on the dumpster saying "we need your stuff, take to apt. ****" or something to that effect. It was funny. We saw some broken shelves in the dumpster, etc. The apt next door had a framed print on the doorstep waiting for someone to take. The apt. had a couch, an upholstered chair, a coffee table, two side tables and a lamp. The kitchen table had four chairs which the girls moved next to their computers so the table now has one chair. They just eat in the living room or move the chairs back to the table if more than one is eating at a time. You really don't need anymore furniture but if you wanted to buy a bean bag chair or something at Walmart or Target or somewhere locally you could. |

Re: More intern questions from mom
Lately it sure seems I've talked to many unsure college students/parents about coming to do the college program. Point blank it's one of the best decisions I've ever made and one of the best things to ever happen to me. 2 weeks ago I got engaged to my girlfriend who I met during my college program. So you see what all can happen? Being a CP was wonderful.
