Tonight the campus rep at my college told me that after you finish the college program or internship your contract with Disney is terminated and you are no longer eligible for employement with Disney or it's affilates. I questioned him a lot on this and he swore this to be true. It made no sense to me because why would Disney have interns if not to recruit the best cast members who know Disney's ways? If this is true it really bad news for me because I am majoring in Hospitality and Tourism and doing the college program this fall so I can have a career with Disney. Please can anyone shead some light on this ??!!! No one said anything about this during the CP presentation. I really hope that this is a rep who doesn't know what he is talking about.

When my daughter was there for Fall Advantage 2003, they offered her a management internship at her final evaluation. She turned it down at the time to finish her degree, but they told her it would continue to be open to her when she finished if she wanted it. So unless they have changed the rules, it sounds like the rep was misinformed.

I think he must be because I have heard of a lot of people who got their "foot in the door" through the college program.

I don't know if they still do this, but she remained a 'seasonal' employee and the only requirement at that time was to work at least one day a year. They did make some changes last time she went and was required to go like 3 days ahead for another security check before she was allowed to work.

I have a customer at work that I see on a daily basis and both of his kids have done the CP, his oldest has now graduated but still goes back to WDW once a year for at least week to work to keep his employee status. He's only required to work a day, but since he's traveling from Texas, why not stay and play a little longer?!?! His kids have really enjoyed the program and he talks about it all the time...I've met his daughter and she highly recommends it. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to have the opportunity! The perks for the family are great!

I haven't heard anything along those lines (and remember, I spent all evening reading an info pack from Disney full of rules and regulations!)

I can't imagine why something like that would happen...

I know a friend of mine who's working Main Street USA QSF&B at the mo is contemplating work for Disney (As am I!), and she obviously hasnt been told this.

Perhaps he meant if your contract is terminated (i.e you get fired), Disney wont re-employ you?

It's just dawned on me. That has to be total honky...

Because on the US College Program, to be a Campus Rep for Disney, you have to be an alumni of the program as far as I know. Also, I've heard of people doing the program several years in a row.

Aaaaaaaand also, I know someone who got emails from Disney this year asking him if he'd go back out to do the international program again - and he's already worked there.

Ignore the rumour! It's false!

P.S. Steve Martin... ex Disneyland Cast Member... Now appearing in an attraction at Disneyland for it's 50th... He's another example of someone who worked for Disney, left and is working for them again. Crisis over!

Definitely very wrong. Disney loves to hire post-cp grads. In fact, it is a requirement for the professional internships. I hope this guy didnt scare too many people away!

Your rep definitely has incorrect info. One of my friends from my work location at WDW was on the CP, came back and did an advanced internship and then ended up working full time in Guest Relations after he graduated from college. As far as I know, he is still there.

Perhaps your rep meant that if you are terminated for any reason during your CP then you are ineligible for future employment with Disney. I can see that being true.

He told me that once you finish the program, and graduate college that your contract is terminated. I know he did the CP and later a second internship in Guest Relations. It didn't make any sense to me why Disney wouldn't want to hire grads that had participated in their program. I wonder how many people he told this too? I felt like he was telling me bad information. I asked him to repeat it several times. I wonder if I should contact Disney about this? Thankyou to everyone who responsed to this. It has bothered me all night, and I feel better after hearing from all of you!!!

Well Your Contract is terminated after you finish the CP, but that doesn't mean you can't comeback. There are quite a few who finish the cp and move down here and become PT or FT CM's.

On another note your behavior during the program may get you a "do not rehire" status.

Yuck, what a horrible thing to hear! I also hope to be hired by Disney after I finish the college program. I agree with everyone here that the information is a little crazy. If you ever look at internship postings on the Disney Career's website they always prefer and candidates who completed the college program. I don't think we have anything to worry about vlogilvie (fingers crossed) just keep counting down the days to the time of your life!

I also know of 2 people who have completed the internship and continue to go down and work a couple of weeks in the winter. In fact one of them is the CP Rep in this area now.
